Where can I purchase a Hunter Ceiling Fan, Santa Barbara model, #23783?

ANSWER:
To the best of my knowledge, all of the Hunter Santa Barbara ceiling fans have been discontinued. They do not appear in any pricing or availablility information that we have received from hunter since 2005. However, it is possible that Hunter may still make the fan only for one of the home centers like Home Depot or Sears, but I have no way of finding out for sure...although I seriously doubt it. What is it about this particular fan that interests you?

Can it be installed with a flush mount kit?...and if so, what would the ceiling clearance be. I need a fan that is decorative like this but has a clearance of about 10". I'd rather not have a hugger style. It will be in the salon of a houseboat. I want a Tuscan feel. Also, can you use a remote control if there is no wall switch for the fan? Thanks

ANSWER:
Minka Aire does have a low ceiling adapter that can be used with this fan. It is model A180-BCW. The adapter allows the fan to attach directly to the ceiling canopy elinating the downrod, which will save you about 3 inches in height. However, that will still put the bottom of the fan at about 11 1/2" from the ceiling. Keep in mind, that the blades themselves are already less than 10 inches from the ceilling...even without the adapter. However, since you are planning on installing this fan in a houseboat, I would suggest that you use a fan that is rated for use outdoors, since it will most likely be exposted to moisture. The Windjammer ceiling fans are not rated for use outdoors, so the answer would be no...you should not install them on a porch. They should be installed indoors only.

Well, the fan uses a single 100 Watt incandescent bulb, so I would suspect it would not be sufficient for use over a dining room table. However, the amount of lighting that you require personally will differ greatly from what others need, so I must let you decide if 100 Watts of light is sufficient. If you already have a light or chandelier over the table that only uses 100 Watts and it is sufficient, then the fan will be sufficient. If your current light supplies 200 or 300 watts of light and you find it to be sufficient at its brightest setting, then obviously this fan would not provide sufficient lighting for your needs.

I have a hampton bay 3 light french scavo pendant, model #27004 from home depot. Craftmade CXL is listed as 3 speed- but specs show only a 210 RPM. No speed range is indicated. Also describes indirect uplighting as a feature-- but is not available in the options. Also- No blade options available. What is true here?

ANSWER:
Not all manufacturers specify the range of speeds for their fans. In this case, the data that we have refers to the RPM of the fan on high speed, which is the most common information supplied by fan companies. As for the uplight feature, we apologize for the inconsistency in the description. The truth is that the Craftmade CXL does not include an uplight feature. We have modified the data in our specifications as well as the description to make this clear. As far as blade options, if you click on the tab for Blades just above the picture of the fan, you should see a wide variety of blade options. If this feature does not work for you, then it is possible that your browser does not technology we are using on our site. In any case, please give us a call and we will gladly answer any further questions you have right over phone.

Is there a re-stock fee on this fan if I order it and return it? My electrician does not know if it is a viable solution for my outdoor deck, so he wants me to order it before he makes a decision. Is this a returnable item?

ANSWER:
A restocking fee would in fact be required to return the fan, but some exceptions can be made...particularly with a popular fan like this. However, any exception could only be made if in fact the box was never opened. In my opinion, that would defeat the purpose of what you contractor needs. I would assume that he wants to see how the fan is installed or something of that sort, which would require him to open the box. Furthermore, you would be required to pay for the shipping in both directions regardless of whether the restocking fee was waived. So, the question I have would be: Would it benefit your contractor to have a copy of the installation manual before you order the fan? If that is the case, it may be possible for us to obtain that for you. Although Minka Aire does not supply a .pdf version of their installation manuals, I would gladly make an attempt to get one for you if at all possible.

You are absolutely correct. The Concord Roosevelt fan does not have a built-in uplight. Thank you for pointing out my mistake, I sincerely appreciate it. I will make the correction in my previous response.

QUESTION:
I am wanting to purchase for a covered patio connected to the house. The switch for the light is inside the house and is one of three switches on 3 switch plate. I suppose I have 2 questions.....First, can the fan be operated without the wall control if the remote control is bought or is the wall control necessary? Secondly, if the wall control has to be installed will the remote still work even if the wall control is on the inside (right inside the door)? Thanks for your help!

ANSWER:
If you purchase the remote control, you do not need to install the wall control. However, your wall control supplies the power to the fan, so it must be in the on position in order for the remote to work. Also, you can in fact purchase a new cover plate that can accommodate various control configurations. I am assuming that your current 3 switches are the old toggle type switches. So, if you installed the wall control that comes with the fan, you would need to purchase a new cover plate that had 1 large rectangular hole for the new control and 2 smaller holes for the old style switches. If you decide to install the wall control, it should still work from inside the house providing the fan is within 20 feet or so of the switch. Although we do not carry the cover plates, they are available through many sources online. why does the capacitor give off a burning smell

ANSWER:
When a capacitor begins to fail, it overheats and will start to melt the plastic that encases it. Some cheaper fans use cheap capacitors that will overheat easily and produce this smell...which means they will eventually burn out. What brand and model of fan are you referring to and where did you purchase it?

Installed the Harbor Breeze 42" Vector Elite in a bedroom 12x11 and it does not give off any downward airflow. The fan looks great but does not perform.

ANSWER:
This is pretty common for fans sold at Home Centers. This is why we have established an Airflow rating system on our website so that people who visit might understand that some fans move more air than others. There is really nothing you can to to make your fan move more air other than replace it with a better fan. Look for fans on our site with an airflow rating of 4 or 5, you will pay substantially more than you did at Lowes, but you will be most satisfied with the difference in performance.

QUESTION:
you dont show just a slide switch for fan only what am I supposed to use if I am not going to use a light kit. I don't want a remote. I also emailed you a few days ago wanting to know the amp or watt rating of this fan I am wiring in a new circut to install and need to know the draws. Despite your claim to reply within 48 hours I have not heard from you. Do you sell fans?

ANSWER:
The Montecarlo Cyclone draws slightly less than .7 amps on high speed. We can supply a 4 speed slide control sold by Montecarlo specifically for fans like this that have the newer more powerful 212mm motors. The control comes in White (model ESSWC-4-WH) or Almond (model ESSWC-4-AL). This is a relatively new control and it has not been added to our site, but we can certainly have it shipped to you with your fan. The picture I have included below is of the ESSWC-3-WH control, which is available for smaller motors. It is identical in appearance to the ESSWC-4, but is made to handle the additional amperage required by this fan. I will make sure our tech department adds this control to our site. Please accept my apology for the delayed response...seems a bit crazy lately...but I am sure I will get caught up. Here is a picture of the ESSWC-4-WH control:

ANSWER:
Well, generally speaking...most Montecarlo fans will accept a universal type of light fixture. But, not all generic lights will work from other brands. Without knowing exactly which model you own, or which brand of light fixture you are considering purchasing, I cannot make a firm recommendation. I will say though, that we always recommend staying with the same brand so that there is no risk of incompatability...not just because you want to be sure that the fixture attaches properly, but because you want to make sure the finish matches the fan. As you well know, there are many shades of any finish. If you put two white finishes side by side, you may find that one looks gray and the other looks yellower. Polished brass and antique brass finishes will vary dramatically in color tone from brand to brand. Other more designer types of finishes such as oil rubbed bronze will almost never match between brands. Can you tell me the model number and finish of the fan you own so I can offer more input?

Yes it can...although as with any metallic appliance, the finish may begin to show signs of weathering over the years. As you may already know, there is little that can be done about this with any type of outdoor fixture. However, rest assured that the fan will continue to operate and the finish will hold up better than less expensive fans.

Quite frankly, to this point we have not had a single page on our site that shows all glass shades...normally, you would navigate to a fan, select a compatable light fixture, then select the glass shades that were appropriate for that fixture to see all of the options of that type from the brand of fan you selected. However, to help you out personally, I have created a page that will in fact allow you to see all of the glass shades available from each brand. Please take a look at it. You will need to call us to order any of the items shown...and when you call in, do not be surprised if the person you speak with is not aware of the page you are looking at since I created it just for you and have not had a chance to inform anyone. Go figure....guess you could say it is for both. However, I must mention that the model pictured on this page has the old Marlin logo, which is no longer how the fan is made. Please look at some of the other models and you will see the simplified logo that is currently in production. I would venture to say that the new logo stands stricly for Havana.

As with almost all ceiling and wall fans, they are made in China. However, there are many factories in China that make fans for various brands in the USA with quality levels from the worst to the very best. The factories that Fanimation uses only produce the highest level of quality that is available for fan manufacturing...which is why they cost more than lesser brands.

I need three 52ac fans to be remotely controled. They are all in the same room. I am only running a two wire (and ground )three way switch setup. Any ideas??

ANSWER:
Seems pretty simple. Just purchase a remote control for each fan. If you want them all to run off the same remote, then program all of the receivers to the same frequency as the transmitter. However, I do not recommend doing that since there may be times where you only want one or two of the fans on at the same time. Plus, the remote control transmitter has a certain range that works best, so if the fan furthest from the control is too far away (approx. 25 to 40 feet depending on the actual control you purchase), then it might not communicate with the transmitter and it will be difficult to get all of the fans doing the same thing at the same time. Please give us a call and we will make sure you get what you need.

Can I purchase just the 3 speed TCS wall control? I have Model CA60 purchased in around 1998. High, Medium Low Reverse and fan Off switches on Left side and Light dimmer swich (also on off switch) on right side. Mine stopped working, and I'm sure it is not the frequency setting.

You can purchase a small dowrod which is only about 2 inches long...which is pretty much like flush mounting the fan. However, a better alternative would be to purchase a hugger style fan that is designed specifically to be flush mounted. Given the right model with the right type of motor, you will get better performance. Just give us a call, we can supply the control. However, it may not be the control that needs replacing, you may need to also replace the remote receiver inside the fan. Before you do either, I would suggest that you try changing the dip switches in both the transmitter and receiver. This often times solves problems with remote controls. I am assuming that you have replaced the batteries in the transmitter. Furthermore, sometimes when the batteries are replaced, the dip switches inside the remote get moved accidentally, which is another reason you may wish to try resetting the dip switches.

Well, there really are no universal cover plates...so you will need to be more specific about your fan. What is the brand and model number. What finish. How old is it and where did you purchase it. If it came from Home Depot, odds are you cannot remove the lights and there likely is no such cover plate. If all else fails, email me a picture of the fan and I will try to identify it.

QUESTION:
can a fan be used without the remote control?

ANSWER:
Well, if your fan came with a built-in remote control, the odds are it cannot be used without the control. However, if the fan was a pull chain fan originally and the remote control was added, then you can remove the remote receiver from the ceiling and wire the fan directly to convert it back to a pull chain fan...providing the pull chain switches are still working. Also, some remote control fans have the option to add a wall control that can be used instead of the remote or in conjunction with the remote. So, the bottom line is that it depends greatly on what fan you are referring to.

ANSWER:
Well, how about the 44" Minka Aire Concept II fan...which is by far the best selling hugger fan of all time. I know you said 42", but a 44" fan is only 1" longer per blade. We do have other options as well, but I suggest you check this one out first and then get back to me with any comments you have.

Not all outdoor fans are rated for the same application. There are damp rated and wet rated fans. Damp rated outdoor fans must be covered, like a porch or patio. Wet rated outdoor fans can be exposed directly to rain. Both types can be used indoors as well.

Look at the top of the ceiling fan motor housing. There should be a label that has the name brand and model number of the fan. If that information is not there, then it is most likely that the fan is a generic import fan, which means we would not have access to any information or replacemant parts. If it is one of the brands that we carry, we should be able to help you. If you cannot identify the brand and model of the fan, try emailing me a picture of it and I will see if I can.

Can I use 1 WC210 Aire Control to control 2 Concept II Flush 52 Ceiling Fans installed in the same patio?

ANSWER:
Yes you can. You can program both fans to operate on the same frequency as a single control. However, you must consider that under ideal conditions, the range of the control is about 40 feet. So if either of the fans are close to or beyond that distance, the fan that is too far away will react inconsistently with the control...or may not work at all. So I would suggest that if the control is more than 30 feet away from either fan, then install a second control.

There really are no hugger style outdoor fans on the market that are Colonial either with or without a light. Outdoor hugger fans are a relatively new addition to the ceiling fan industry and the handful of models available from the major brands are quite contemporary. However, this being said, there are some models available that have a traditional downrod style, but can be installed without the downrod, which will reduce the hanging height by about 2 or 3 inches...in essence, making them flush-mounted fans. As of now, we do not have any way to filter this particular option on our website, so I might suggest that you give us a call so we can point out which models have this option. Otherwise, below, you will find a link to one such model from Hunter called the Charthouse. Please let me know if this style of fan will work for you or if you need something more specifically colonial in style. Keep in mind that there were no ceiling fans in Colonial times, so there really is no definition for a colonial style fan.

Try slightly prying the plate with a screwdriver while loosening one of the screws. If this does not work, I will need to know what brand your fan is and where it was purchased in order to be of more help...or email me a picture of the part you are trying to remove.

The fan ships with a full function wall control that in fact has a reverse feature (button). If you do not have this feature on your control, then I suspect you do not have the original control. Can you email me a picture of the fan as well as the control so that I can identify them?

It is likely that the fan you have on your screened porch has a light fixture installed that was not designed for damp locations, so the screws have rusted (the fixture does not have rust resistent parts). I might suggest that you spray them with WD40 or Liquid Wrench, let them set for a few minutes then give it another whirl...Let me know what happens.

The Panama XTR, XLP and Emerson K55 motors are considered the best motors on the market. The 212mm x 25mm motors in both the Grand Prix and Cyclone fans run a very close second. However, consider that the Grand Prix and Cyclone fans are both oversized 60 inch diameter blade span, where the Panama is a 50 inch fan...so we are not comparing apples to apples. Ultimately, if the large blade span is what you desire, then the Grand Prix and Cyclone will offer superb performance for fans this large.

The Minka Aire Viper comes with both a 3 1/2 inch and 6 inch downrod in the box. The hanging dimensions from the ceiling shown on our site are for the smaller downrod.

This response was edited on 4/9/2008...the original reply regarding the uplight stated that there was in fact an uplight, which is incorrect. There is no uplight included with the Concord Roosevelt fan. Regarding the motor....the Roosevelt ceiling fan has the best motor made by Concord, it is both quiet and powerful.

The Casablanca Panama is one of the alltime best ceiling fans on the market, so very few fans will compare. The Panama has a more powerful motor, so it will move more air. It also has a much more sophisticated remote control if you are comparing to the remote control version of the Panama. The equivalent to the Panama from Emerson is the Premium, which has a K55 motor, which is virtually the same motor as the Panama. The Emerson Premium has more control options and comes with a built-in uplight (which the panama does not have). You can also choose a remote control and wall control that will work together, which you cannot do with the Panama. Both of the Emerson Premium and Casablanca Panama are in a completely different league than the Emerson Designer Remote. The Fanimation Brewmaster can operate both in forward and reverse. Also, it does not matter which side of the fan you place the drive motor. Hopefully this clears up any confusion you might have regarding the direction of the airflow.
