Wet Rated Outdoor Fans
|
 Wet Rated Outdoor Fans
| For use in uncovered outdoor areas
Wet rated outdoor ceiling fans can be exposed directly to rain, so they are not only great for outdoor patios, but can be installed under a Gazeebo or Lanai...or a patio that is only partially covered. |

Damp Rated Ceiling Fans
|
 Damp Rated Outdoor Fans
| For use in covered outdoor areas
Damp rated outdoor ceiling fans cannot be exposed directly to rain or water. They are designed to handle moisture and must be installed in a covered area such as a porch, bathroom, or indoor pool area. They cannot be installed in a Gazeebo or Lanai and should not be installed under a porch unless the porch is covered enough to protect the fan from direct exposure to rain. |

About Outdoor Ceiling Fans
There are 2 basic types of outdoor ceiling fans. Those that are UL listed and approved for use in Wet Locations and those that are rated for Damp Locations.
Damp rated fans must be able to handle damp locations such as under a covered porch, patio, or for an indoor swimming pool. Damp rated outdoor fans cannot be installed where they will be directly hit by rain. Wet rated outdoor ceiling fans can be installed in uncovered areas with direct exposure to rain such as in a gazebo or uncovered patio. All outdoor fans can be used indoors as well, and sometimes they are a great choice for their unique style, and in some cases, their superior performance.
When shopping for an outdoor ceiling fan, you need to consider what you want the fan to accomplish. If the area that you are trying to keep cool is directly above a seating area and you do not expect to need much breeze, then the average models will be sufficient. However, what many have found is that the higher quality models with larger motors will not only keep you more comfortable during those hot summer days, they will also keep the flies away, so this is something to consider when you make your purchase.
The outdoor ceiling fans that will move the most air will have an airflow rating of 4 or 5. These are the models we recommend the most.
If you need help with your selection, please do not hesitate to call and talk to our ceiling fan experts. They are quite familiar with the various outdoor fans that are available and can tell you what the differences are and help you decide what is best for you.
