Emerson Ceiling Fan and Ceiling Fan Accessories - Emerson Has Been Manufacturing Fans Since 1895!

Emerson Ceiling Fans are among the finest quality ceiling fans in the world and the Emerson K55 motor is considered the industry standard for most high performance ceiling fans. Not only does Emerson use this motor in their best ceiling fans, they also supply the k55 motor to other ceiling fan manufactures as well. What to look for in a ceiling fan

What are these Ceiling Fan Comparison Graphs?

As of January 1, 2009, all ceiling fan manufacturers are required to test and publish data regarding the performance of their fans. Specifically, the CFMs (Cubic Feet per Minute of Airflow), the Watts (amount of electricity used per hour) and the Efficiency (EPA defines as CFM/Watts).

We have added this new information to our previous rating system and come up with an even better method of comparing ceiling fans. These new "Comparison Graphs" allow you to easily compare ceiling fans at a glance. Once you understand how to interpret these graphs, it becomes quite easy to compare the perforance of any fan on our site at a glance.

Read more details about this topic here at: Who Makes the Best Ceiling Fans - The Online Guide to Comparing Ceiling Fans!

CFM = Cubic Feet of Airflow per Minute | Efficiency = CFM/Watts | Quality = 1 to 5 where 5 is best

Fans with the highest CFM rating move the most air so they will keep you the coolest. The more CFMs your fan can produce, the less you will use your air conditioning (which can save you lots of money). Simply put, fans with the highest CFM will save the most on your cooling bills.

Ceiling fans cool you off by creating a wind chill effect, they do not change the actual temperature in a room. Ceiling Fans with higher Wind Speed will create the most wind chill effect. The Wind Speed is the calculated measure of the expected wind velocity in the column of air directly beneath the span of the blades, so it takes into consideration the CFMs and the Blade Span of a fan.

Fans with the highest Quality Rating (4 or 5) have superior precision made components, so they tend not to wobble or make noise and can be left running for long periods of time (days on end) without breaking down. So your challenge is to find a ceiling fan that looks good to you, is the right size for your room, has the highest CFM and Quality ratings, yet still fits within your budget.

Hansen Wholesale is the only website that gives you all the tools you need to make this happen...quickly and easily.

CFM is defined as Cubic Feet per Minute. The CFM of a ceiling fan is determined by a standardized test adpoted by the EPA. As of January 1st 2009, all manufacturers are required to test their fans and provide this information to dealers and consumers.

Wind Speed: To make it easier for you to compare fans of various CFM and blade spans, we calculate the wind speed of the air colum below the fan. This calculation is based on the CFMs per square foot of blade span, and then converted to Miles Per Hour. Ceiling fans cool you off by creating a wind chill effect, not by changing the temperature in a room. The breeze created by a ceiling fan is mostly concentrated in the column of air just beneath the blades. Two fans that generate the same CFM but have different blade spans will cool you off differently. A larger fan will have a wider column of air that is less concentrated (lower wind speed) than a smaller fan. So the smaller fan will make you feel cooler when you are directly beneath it, while the larger fan will provide less breeze, but spread it over a larger area. So when see a fan that has a very high CFM, be sure to look at the blade span and wind speed as well to see how they compare to other fans.

Quality Rating is from 1 to 5 where 5 is the very best. This is a more subjective score that we devised ourselves to rate ceiling fans before the EPA began requiring manufacturers to publish performance data. Although this rating does consider the CFMs produced by a fan, it also considers the quality of the components used to make the fan. So you will find fans with high CFM ratings, yet have lower Quality ratings and visa-versa.

Averages: It is good to know what the average performance and quality of every fan is so that you can get a better feel for what these numbers mean. If you stick with fans that are above average, then you will be more satisfied and visa-versa. These averages are calculated every time this page loads, so as we add or discontinue fans from our site, it is real data dynamically generated, not typed in by someone who could make an error or fudge it.

Out of 1607 fans on our site that have performance data available, here are some averages:

  • Average CFM = 5,569 CFM
  • Average Watts = 73.84 Watts
  • Average Efficiency = 75.42 CFM/Watts
  • Average Quality Rating = 3.00
  • Average Price = $300.20

Here are the averages for all 245 fans that have a quality rating of 5:

  • Average CFM = 6,370 CFM
  • Average Watts = 99.58 Watts
  • Average Efficiency = 63.97 CFM/Watts
  • Average Quality Rating = 4.00
  • Average Price = $374.42

Here are the averages for all 202 fans that have a quality rating of 2:

  • Average CFM = 4,563 CFM
  • Average Watts = 60.37 Watts
  • Average Efficiency = 75.58 CFM/Watts
  • Average Quality Rating = 2.00
  • Average Price = $172.29

Room Size and CFM Chart

Although the EPA now requires fan manufacturers to publish the CFM ratings of their fans, there is no standardized scientific method of determining what size and CFM fan is best for any given application. A few quick searches and you will find that each ceiling fan manufacturer interprets this differently. So we created our won size and CFM recommendation chart to give you an idea what we recommend for "typical" applications. We produced this chart based on over 20 years of experience dealing with ceiling fans and the people who we've sold them to. For the most part, this chart will suffice. If you have low ceilings, you can fudge a little on the CFM and use a fan in the lesser range of the room size. If you have high ceilings, you need more CFM and a fan closer to the larger size of the chart. In most cases, the more the CFM the better and the higher the quality score the better!

Ceiling Fans Question - Emerson Midway ECO Model CF955ORB

    View Midway ECO model CF955ORB

    1. Do I need to purchase a remote to be able to turn the light on or off? Or does the light go on when the fan is turned on. 2. We have our present fans wired to a wall dimmer switch. Will these dimmers work the fan at different speeds. Can the light be wired to another switch? Re Emerson Midway Eco

Answer: The Emerson Midway Eco comes with a remote control that gives you 6 speeds and an on/off control for the light fixture. You must change out your dimmer switches on the wall to a basic on/off toggle switch. Dimmer switches should never be used for any ceiling fan...it makes them hum and eventually can ruin the motor. You can also purchase the optional SW114 wall control for the Eco ceiling fans so that you can operate them by remote control and wall control.

does this fan come with optional blades black with maple and can lights be added?

Answer: Although you can add a light fixture to the Emerson Snugger ceiling fan, there are no blade options. Craftmade makes a similar fan where you can choose different blades (including black or maple) as well as add a light fixture. Here is a link: Craftmade Contemporary Flushmount Ceiling Fan.

Ceiling Fans Question - Emerson Origami Model CF3000BS

    View Origami model CF3000BS
    View Origami model CF3000BS

What is the country of manufacture of the emerson origami ceiling fan.

Answer: There are NO ceiling fans being manufactured in the USA at this time. Although some fans are being made in other countries, almost all fans being sold in the USA are actually manufactured in China...Emerson fans included. Although we wish we could say otherwise, it is simply the current state of the industry. Keep in mind that Emerson is a good old USA company that has been around for over 100 years (since 1895). Their ceiling fans were originally made in the USA for the longest time until pressures from mass merchants forced them (and all other ceiling fan manufacturers) to begin producing their products overseas. Fortunately, Emerson is one of the few ceiling fan manufacturers that has their own quality control personnel on site at the factory that produces their fans, so you can still count on the quality and durability of their fans. Read this article for more info: Ceiling Fans Made in the USA?

Ceiling Fans Question - Emerson Loft Model CF765BS

    View Loft model CF765BS
    View Loft model CF765BS

Kitchen is 400 sq ft with a pitched vaulted ceiling of approx 12 ft. Will this fan be efficient to cool? Does it include a remote? We would want a remote versus a pull change to operate. No light needed. We are willing to pay more for a well-engineered motor that has the extras to keep in running quietly and have it last a long time. Is there any advantage to cooling with longer blades or more blades? Would this size fan be appropriate? How long should downrod be?

Answer: The Emerson Loft is an excellent choice for a kitchen your size. It moves lots of air and will certainly cool you off more than most other fans. It does not come with a remote control, so you will need to add one by clicking on the button for "Controls" located beneath the picture of the fan on the product detail page. 3 blades moves the most air when all other things are equal, although the amount of blades is quite a bit less important than the power of the motor, blade pitch and RPMs. Just look at the CFM airflow to compare to other ceiling fans on our website. You will find that the Loft moves a lot more air than most other fans. The remote control option does not have a reverse feature, but you can still manually reverse the airflow by flicking the switch conveniently located on the motor. I would recommend using a 3 foot downrod for optimal performance, providing the fan is being installed from the highest point in the ceiling (12 feet).

Ceiling Fans Question - Emerson Maui Bay Model CF2000PW

    View Maui Bay model CF2000PW
    View Maui Bay model CF2000PW

If I purchase the Maui Bay fan, no lights, and low ceiling down rod, what will it measure, ceiling to blades? What are the blades made out of.

Answer: The Emerson Maui Bay ceiling fans come with a 6" downrod, so a 2 1/2" downrod will bring the fan 3 1/2" closer to the ceiling. The Pewter Maui Bay is pictured with natural Tropical Leaf blades, which are made from real banana leaves. The fan installed with Tropical leaf blades measures 14 1/2" from the ceiling to the bottom of the blades. The short downrod will raise that height by 3 1/2", which will put the bottom of the blades at 11" from the ceiling.

However, it is important you are aware that when you use the short 2 1/2" downrod, it will degrade the performance if the fan significantly, so you will lose a substantial amount of airflow. This is because the air cannot flow efficiently around the blades when they are too close to the ceiling (which is why the fan comes with a 6"dowrnod in the first place).

Even more, palm style blades does not move as much air as typical fan blades, so the Maui Bay with Tropical leaf blades is already at a disadvantage when it comes to airflow compared to other fans with the same motor that have more traditional blades. So I will suggest that you DO NOT use the shorter downrod unless your ceiling is lower than 8 feet, otherwise, you may not be satisfied with the airflow. If you are not concerned about how well the fan cools you off and are more interested in creating a decorative statement, then the short downrod may be an acceptable choice. On the flip side, when it comes to ceiling fans with palm style blades, the Maui Bay moves the most air relative to similar fans form other brands, so if you are set on a palm style fan mounted close to the ceiling, the Maui Bay is in fact your best choice. Please call us so we can help you make the right decision.

Ceiling Fans Question - Emerson Midway ECO Model CF955BS

I want to buy the Emerson Eco midway fans. I have 2 rooms. One is 14.5 feet by 11 feet with 8 foot ceiling. The other room is 10.5 feet by 10.5 with an 8 foot ceiling. What size Eco Midway would I buy or does it just come in the 54 inch blade size? Is my ceiling high enough? Thanks for your help.

Answer: The Emerson Midway Eco ceiling fans only come in the 54" size, which is perfect for your larger room, but a bit too large for your smaller room. The Eco fans are designed to be installed on 8 foot ceilings with the hardware that comes in the box, so that is not a problem. Please call us so we can help you find a 42" to 44" ceiling fan that is sufficient for your smaller room.

how can i get more air from my maui bay fan with the tropical leaf blades i feel very little air

Answer: Ceiling fans with tropical leaf or palm style blades simply do not move as much air as fans with more traditional style blades. The reason is because the blades are wider and heavier and create more drag, which slows the motor down considerably. The blades are also less rigid, so they tend to slip through the air a bit rather than push the air.

Emerson has made improvements to the Maui Bay over the last several years to try and overcome this problem, so the current Maui Bay ceiling fans being sold actually move more air than most other tropical style ceiling fans. When Emerson first introduced the Maui Bay, the blades had less pitch and the motor was set to supply less torque. At that point, the Maui Bay was like similar fans from other brands that were more decorative than functional. After several years of production, Emerson took the problem to their engineers who were able to make the fan more functional by redesigning the blades, increasing the blade pitch and supplying more torque to the motor, thus increasing the performance.

If your Maui Bay fan is more than 2 or 3 years old, it is likely that you have the more decorative model and there is nothing you can do to improve the airflow short of replacing the entire fan with the newer model. Keep in mind that even though the current Maui Bay ceiling fan moves more air than palm style fans from other brands, it still does not move as much air as fans with traditional blades. You can use the CFM airflow ratings posted on our site to compare the performance of the Maui Bay to other ceiling fans. The bottom line is this...if you have your heart set on a tropical leaf ceiling fan, the Emerson Maui Bay is ultimately your best choice.

How old is your Maui Bay fan and where did you purchase it?

The Emerson Carrera Grande is listed with a three (3) speed pull chain. Will the SW46 control with four (4) speeds work with this fan and will it control up to four speeds? I prefer the fan without a light kit. This fan will be replacing a Casablanca Inteli-touch fan with light. Will the wiring accomodate the Emerson fan?

Answer: Yes, the SW46 wall control will give the Emerson Carrera Grande ceiling fan 4 speeds from the wall. You simply put the pull chain on the highest speed and then control the fan using the wall control. The SW46 will also replace your existing Casablanca Inteli-Touch switch without the need for any additional wiring, considering you will not be using a light fixture.

Need a fan equal to Emerson St. Croix CF3300ORH, but that will fit a 10 ft ceiling. Any suggestions?

Answer: There are not vertically spinning ceiling fans of this style that will fit on a 10 foot ceiling. Both the Emerson St. Croix and The Fanimation Pallisade ceiling fans require a minimum 11 foot ceiling height if the smallest blade options are selected.

I need a 38 to 42 inch blades in dark brown, bronze or chrome. I need for a bathroom. Has to be able to take moisture. The bathroom is not too big. I need flush mount and I do not need any lights.

Answer: Unfortunately, Minka Aire does not make the Concept II ceiling fans for damp locations in the 42" size. They do make the Concept II Wet ceiling fans in a 52" size, but that option will be too large for your bathroom. The perfect alternative is the Emerson Curva Sky 44" Damp Rated Ceiling Fan. It is visually very similar to the Minka Aire Concept II, mounts flush to the ceiling and comes in both 44" and 52" sizes that are rated for damp locations.

Are any emerson fans made in the usa or mostly made in usa? Thanks ,Anna Jones

Answer: Emerson no longer manufacturers any of their ceiling fans in the USA. As a matter of fact, there are no longer any ceiling fans being made in the USA by ANY ceiling fan manufacturer. Emerson is however a good old USA company and has been here since 1895. Although their fans are no longer made here, they have direct control over the factories that produce their fans overseas, so you can rest assured that the quality of Emerson ceiling fans is still among the best in the world, particularly with any fan that has their famous K55 motor. Please read more about where ceiling fans are made here: Ceiling Fans Made in the USA?
