"Every Day is EARTH DAY when you own an Emerson Eco Fan"
The Emerson Carrera Grand ECO is the second generation of Eco ceiling fans from Emerson. These super energy efficient ceiling fans are ENERGY STAR qualified and incorporate the revolutionary DC powered EcoMotor from Emerson that set a new standard for quality and energy efficiency. Over 3 times more efficient than most other ceiling fans, the Carrera Grande Eco is among the Greenest Ceiling Fans on the Planet. This amazing fan moves over 7,100 Cubic Feet of Air per Minute while consuming only 22 watts of electricity (with 60" blades), which means it moves more air with a fraction of the electricity a typical ceiling fan uses. This is an unprecedented breakthrough in ceiling fan technology far exceeding the standards set for ENERGY STAR Qualification by the Department of Energy (DOE). If you were to replace all of the ceiling fans in your home with the Carrera Grande Eco, you will use less than half the amount of electricity you are currently using if you have ceiling fans in your home. The Carrera Grande Eco is available in your choice of 54", 60" and 72" blade spans depending on the blades that you select.
Damp Rated: The Carrera Grande Eco is Damp rated, but only the B77 (54"), B78 (60") or B79 (72") series blades are recommended for use in damp locations.
Important Note: The Carrera Grande Eco ceiling fan IS Damp rated if purchased with the blades that are shown. Some of the other blade options are not damp rated, so if you plan to install this fan outdoors, make sure you stick with these blades or choose others that are damp rated.
(Building codes require blades to be at least 7' from the floor)

This ceiling fan can be installed on ceilings that are 8 or 9 feet high and can be angled up to 26 degrees without the need for any additional
mounting hardware, so what is in the box will be sufficient. If you have a high ceiling or vaulted ceiling that is angled more than 26 degrees (or both),
you may need a downrod or angled ceiling adapter in order to install your fan.
Minimum Ceiling Height Requirement: This fan requires a minimum ceiling height of at least 97" in order to meet building codes. If your ceiling is lower than 97" then you may need to add a flushmount adapter or close to ceiling dowrod if one is available for the fan (see below).
If you cannot find what you need to make this fan work in your room, please give us a call so we can check to see if there are any further alternatives.
Angled Ceiling Kit - Required for ceilings angled more than 26 and up to 45 degrees. Not needed for ceilings angled 26 degrees or less (or flat). Ceilings angled more than 45 will require a box framed into the ceiling to flatten the surface where the fan is to be installed.
Building codes require ceiling fans to be installed with the blades no lower than 7 feet from the floor in residential applications (industrial fans may require more distnace). The closer you are to the fan blades, the more cooling effect you will feel, so 7 feet is the optimal distance from the floor for most residential ceiling fans to get the most benefit.
Any light fixture you choose to add to this fan is allowed to be less than 7 feet from the floor, so just make sure you have enough headroom to walk under it if need be.
The downrod included with the Emerson Carrera Grande Eco 60 (DC Motor) ceiling fan is 4.5", which puts the blades 13" from the ceiling. Here are the Minimum Ceiling Heights required for each downrod available for this fan. Each length will put the fan blades 7 feet from the floor, so if you want your fan blades higher than 7 feet, choose a shorter downrod to fit your needs.
2.5" Downrod for 7.92' ceilings (blades 11" from ceiling)
12" Downrod for 8.71' ceilings (blades 20.5" from ceiling)
18" Downrod for 9.21' ceilings (blades 26.5" from ceiling)
24" Downrod for 9.71' ceilings (blades 32.5" from ceiling)
36" Downrod for 10.71' ceilings (blades 44.5" from ceiling)
48" Downrod for 11.71' ceilings (blades 56.5" from ceiling)
60" Downrod for 12.71' ceilings (blades 68.5" from ceiling)
70" Downrod for 13.54' ceilings (blades 78.5" from ceiling)
This fan will hange from flat ceilings and ceilings angled up to 26 degrees using the hardware that comes in the box. If your ceiling is over 26 degrees, you can by an Angled Ceiling Adapter that will allow you to install the fan on a ceiling angled up to 45.
Ceiling Angle Calculator
How to measure Rise:
Rise is the vertical distance your ceiling rises for every horizontal foot. Rise per foot is called Pitch. A roof with a 4/12 pitch rises 4 inches vertically for every 12 inches horizontal.
Our calculator uses roof pitch to calculate the angle of your ceiling. Since we already know the horizontal measurement is 12", we only need you to enter in the vertical rise to make the calculation.
To measure the rise of your ceiling: Hold a 12" ruler ruler horizontally (using a level) with one corner touching the ceiling. Then take measure the vertical distance from the other end of the ruler to the ceiling. This is the rise. Select your dimensions in the form above to calculate the angle of your ceiling. Most ceiling fans (except for hugger fans) can hang on ceilings angled up to 30 degrees without
the need for an angled ceiling adapter. 30 degrees is slightly less than a 7/12 pitch. Most angled ceiling adapters will allow your fan to hang up to 45 degress...which is a 12/12 pitch.
The Emerson Carrera Grande Eco 60 (DC Motor) is UL Listed for Outdoor Damp Locations, which means the fan is rated for indoor or outoor use in covered areas where there is excessive moisture, but not direct exposure to rain or sprinklers. It's great for fully covered patios and porches or screened enclosures. All outdoor ceiling fans can also be installed inside your house, so they are also great for bathrooms and laundry rooms or any other room inside your home. NOTE: Certain blade options may not be suitable for use in outdoor damp locations. Make sure the blades you choose are suitable for your location.
Quality Rating = 5 (average is 3)
With a Quality Rating of 5, the Emerson Carrera Grande Eco 60 (DC Motor) is among the finest quality ceiling fans made. It will run smooth and quiet without wobbling or making noise and you can let it run
24 hours a day for years on end without any worries of the motor burning out.
Note: CFM and Wind Speed are calculated using standard shaped 60" blades. The size and shape of the blades will alter the performance dramatically. For example: Palm style and carved wood leaf shaped blades can reduce performance by as much as 50%!
Airflow = 7929 CFM | Wind Speed = 4.59 MPH.
7929 CFM is a lot of airflow and is far above average, which is very good news if you want a ceiling fan that can really cool you off.
The 4.59 MPH wind speed is a little lower than you might expect with such a high airflow. The wind speed tells you how much breeze you can expect to feel when you are beneath the fan. Due to the blade span of this fan, the actual concentration of airflow is spread over a larger area, so the ultimate cooling effect is a little less than some fans with smaller blade spans. This is a compromise that you may be willing to accept if the actual area where you spend your time is further away from the center of the fan, which is why you may consider a larger fan such as this one. In this case the Emerson Carrera Grande Eco 60 (DC Motor) will allow you to raise your thermostat by 1 or 2 degrees, which will still help you save additional money on your cooling bills (if you have AC).
Efficiency Rating = 273 CFM/Watt (average is about 86)
An Efficiency Rating of 273 is
in the "WOW" range of super efficient making the Emerson Carrera Grande Eco 60 (DC Motor) one of the most environmentally friendly ceiling fans ever made.
Efficiency is defined by the EPA as the amount of airflow a fan produces (CFM) divided by the amount of
electricity (Watts) it uses on high speed without any lights on. Efficiency is less important than Airflow because more
CFMs allow you to raise your thermostat higher...which is where you will save the most energy. Efficiency becomes more important if
you expect to operate several ceiling fans at the same time. (see calculator below)
Electrical Usage = 29 Watts (average is about 76)
29 Watts per hour is
"Extremely Low", which is fantastic because the Emerson Carrera Grande Eco 60 (DC Motor) will cost almost nothing to operate compared to other ceiling fans.
Use the calculator below to estimate just how much it will cost to operate this fan in "Your home".
Wind Speed Factor -vs- Efficiency: Wind Speed is KING! Ceiling fans can save you a lot on your energy bills if you use them properly to reduce your use of central air.
Ceiling fans cool you off by creating a wind-chill effect, so the more wind speed a fan generates, the cooler it will make you feel. The cooler your ceiling fan can make you feel, the higher you can raise your AC thermostat to conserve energy without sacrificing your level of comfort. Raising your thermostat by 10 degrees can save you up to 40% on your cooling bills, but you cannot raise your thermostat by 10 degrees if you focus only on ceiling fans that use less energy rather than ones that generate higher wind speed. To put this in perspective: A typical central air system uses about 3500 Watts when it is running, so if a ceiling fan that uses 100 watts allows you to raise your thermostat a couple degrees higher than a more "efficient" fan that uses only 50 watts, the savings you will get by raising your AC therestat a couple degrees higher is far more than the difference of 50 watts between the two fans. With that said, a ceiling fan that uses less watts yet produces higher wind speed is a win-win.
Basic Help: Our operational cost calculator estimates how much it will cost to operate the Emerson Carrera Grande Eco 60 (DC Motor) ceiling fan. By default, the calculator assumes that you will leave your fan running 24 hours a day for the entire year (which is not very likely to be accurate), so you will want to change the hours and days to be more in line with how often you think you will use the fan. The calculator also defaults to the average cost per kWh of electricity in the USA. You can change this to use the average cost of electricity in your state, although this may vary widely from city to city. For the most accurate calculation, manually enter the actual cost/kWh shown on your utility bill.
The wattage of the fan is already included (if it is known), but you can change it if you wish to see how the wattage affects the cost.
Fans with lights: Calculations are performed without lights by default. If you add a light fixture to the fan, you can add the wattage of the fixture to the wattage of the fan to perform calculations with the lights on. In some cases, when a light fixture of known wattage is included with the fan, the option to calculate with or without lights will show automatically. The light fixture on a ceiling fan almost always uses substantially more electricity than the fan motor, so it is very important to take that into account when comparing the overall operational cost between various ceiling fans
CFM -vs- Efficiency: CFM is KING! It is more important to buy a fan with higher CFMs than it is to buy a fan that uses less electricity. The highest wattage consumed by the most energy guzzling ceiling fan on our website is about 120 watts. So if you input 120 as the fan watts and run our calculator, you will see that it still costs less than 2 cents per hour to operate the most energy guzzling ceiling fan in most states.
You will get more savings with a higher CFM fan than a lower Wattage fan because if your fan moves more air
you will be able to raise your thermostat to a higher degree. Raising your thermostat by 10 degrees can save you up to 40% on your cooling bills. Choosing a less powerful fan because it uses less electricity can be the worst mistake you can make because it will not cool you off enough to allow you to raise your thermostat to a high enough level without becoming uncomfortable. This is why CFM is so much more important to consider than Wattage.
The average kWh by state used by our calculator is derived from information published by the
US Government Department of Energy as of May 2009.
Your actual cost may differ from this. Again, refer to your utility bill for your most recent kWh cost.
Wind Speed Calculator
(Calculate the wind speed of a ceiling fan by plugging in the CFM and Blade Span above)
Fan Size -vs- Wind Speed -vs- CFM
"When it comes to ceiling fan size...the largest fan with the highest wind speed that will look fine in the area is the best choice!"
Ceiling fans cool you off by creating a wind-chill effect, the degree of which is determined by the wind speed produced by the fan; the higher the wind speed, the cooler you feel. It is critical to know the following; CFM is not the same as wind speed; the wind chill effect you feel from a ceiling fan is concentrated in the column of air directly beneath the fan blades; the wind chill drops off dramatically just a foot or two outside that area.
Ceiling fan manufacturers are required by the DOE to publish the airflow of each fan in CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) which is not the same as wind speed. CFM is the volume of air being moved every minute, whereas wind speed how fast the air is moving in MPH (Miles per Hour) or LFM (Linear Feet per Minute), both of which are directly related to the amount of wind chill effect. When you compare two fans that are different sizes yet have the same CFM you will find they produce quite different wind speeds. The smaller fan must move air faster in order to move the same amount of air per minute (CFM) as the larger fan. The airflow generated by the smaller creates more wind chill because it is more concentrated and has a higher wind speed. The larger fan of equal CFM moves air over a larger area so it is less concentrated at a lower wind speed. So when determining what size fan to buy you must consider the amount of space a fan will cover (the diameter of the fan plus a foot or two), the intensity of the airflow directly beneath the fan (the wind speed) balanced with how any particular size fan will look or fit in the space. Ultimately the largest fan with the highest wind speed that will look fine in the area is the best choice for performance. Read More...
The required testing method for ceiling fans is not done in a way that translates well to real world applications, so the CFM data can be somewhat deceiving if you do not know how to interpret it.
The current required test procedure (shown left) shows a ceiling fan hanging above a 3 foot tall metal cylinder that is 8 inches wider than the ceiling fan (blade span) and stands 4 feet above the floor. Sensors are located at the bottom of the cylinder to measure the wind speed. The wind speed is then converted into CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute). Although this testing procedure can be valuable for comparing the performance of fans equal in size, it does not emulate a real application inside a home and does not make it easy to compare fans that are different sizes in order to determine the best size fan(s) for any particular application.
Therefore, the best way to compare the actual performance between fans of various sizes is to compare the wind speed. The wind speed of a ceiling fan can be mathematically calculated based on the CFM and Blade Span. Here is a comparison where we performed the calculations between 3 fans of different blade spans and CFMs. The largest fan has the highest CFM yet the smallest fan produces the highest wind speed.
68" Fan with CFM of 7800 produces wind speed of 3.51 MPH (309.28 LFM)
52" Fan with CFM of 6800 produces wind speed of 5.24 MPH (461.08 LFM )
42" Fan with CFM of 5800 produces wind speed of 6.85 MPH (602.84 LFM)
The above example shows how deceiving CFM data can be. Obviously, the smaller fan will cool you off the most if you are directly beneath it. So, to cover a larger area, you need a larger fan with even more CFM than the example above or you need 2 or more smaller fans placed strategically directly over the living/seating areas of the space.

QUESTION: How powerful is the fan? It will be used in an upstairs room that gets quite warm?
ANSWER: Regarding the Emerson Carrera Grande Eco, it is one of the most powerful and efficient fans we sell. The Emerson ECO fans are some of our most highly recommended fans overall. You will certainly be happy with the airflow compared to fans of lesser caliber. Here is a link where you can Read More Aabout the Emerson Eco Fans.
QUESTION: We have 22 foot ceilings (timber-frame construction). We would like to drop the fan to about 14 foot height, implying an 8 foot extension (or 92 inches). Do you have larger extensions or couplers that allow us to build a larger extension?
ANSWER: You can combine two 4 foot downrods together to get your 8 foot pole by adding a downrod coupler. The downrod coupler can be found by clicking on the orange "Accessories" button on the main product page for the Emerson Carrera Grande Eco. Also, when configuring your fan, we do not currently have a method of allowing you to select two dowrnods in your initial configuration, so you will need to select a single 4 foot downrod along with the downrod coupler then add that to your cart. Once the items are in your cart you can change the quantities.
QUESTION: The Emerson Carrera Grande Eco 60 (DC Motor) Ceiling Fan seems to support an "up light". However, I don't see any. Do you have the up light available?
ANSWER: The Emerson Carrera Grand Eco does NOT have an uplight or the capability of adding one. The control that comes with the fan also works with other fans that have this feature, but the Carrera Grande is not one of them.
QUESTION: What blades come with the $399 price CF788ORB?
ANSWER: The Carrera Grande Eco does not come with any blades in the box. This fan is one of several fans of the "Blade Select" series from Emerson. Blade Select fans do NOT come with blades. Instead, there are 50 different blades for you to choose from so that you can design the fan to your needs. The blades range in size create a fan from 54" to 72" in span and there are many styles and finishes of blades to choose from in these various sizes.
If you look at the product page on our site, you can see that the blades are itemized separately from the $399 fan motor. When you Initially view the fan product page, the blades shown in the picture are included in the total price and you can see the itemized price of the motor and the pictured blades. You can select different blades by clicking on the orange "Blades" button beneath the main fan picture and the blades shown in the itemized list will change to reflect your selection. The total price will change as well.
No other website does it this way since it is quite complex to configure all of the pictures to include the appropriate blades as well as allow for the compatibility of all the optional blade selections.
Using the other orange buttons on the product page you can also choose other components as well such as light fixtures, glass, controls, downrods etc.
If you have any questions about ordering any of our Blade Select fans, please call and talk to one of our Ceiling Fan experts who will help you configure your fan to fit your needs. Call: 1-800-201-1193.
QUESTION: I have never installed a ceiling fan. Could I see the instructions for installing the Emerson Carrera Grande Eco 60?
The fan that just died had four blades. Does it matter if the new fan has five blades?
ANSWER: Emerson has not yet published the PDF version of the installation manual for the Carrera Grande Eco. However, the installation and hardare is essentially the same as the Carrera Grande, which is the non-DC version of the fan. You can use this link to download the Installation Manual for the Emerson Carrera Grande.
Regarding the difference between 4 and 5 blades...technically 4 blades will move more air than 5, but the difference is almost unmeasurable and should not affect your buying decision. 4 blades are easier to balance than 5, but 5 blades generate less wind noise and is the most common. Ultimately, the decision is more a personal preference based on appearance as well as availability. Since most fans come with either 3 or 5 blades nowadays, your style choices are going to be very limited when it comes to 4.
QUESTION: Emerson Carrera Grande Eco 60 (DC Motor) Ceiling Fan Model CF788ORB- I can't find the 72 version of this model (without the light). Also, do any have just a wall mount with all the controls so one can lose the remote?
ANSWER: Here is a link to one a 60" Carrera Grand Eco fan without lights. Once you reach the page, if you click on the button for "Blades" just below the picture, you can choose from blades in various shapes and sizes that work with the Carrera Grande Eco. If you click on the "Controls" button beneath the picture you can select a wall control that is compatible with the remote that comes with the fan.
QUESTION: Does this model - CF788ORB - come with the remote recever? If not, which reciever goes with it.?
ANSWER: Yes, the Emerson Carrera Grand Eco 60 does include a remote receiver. The receiver works with the included wall transmitter as well as any of the other optional remote controls listed. You can also use the included wall control in conjunction with any of the other optional controls. So if you decide to purchase any of the optional controls, there will be no need to purchase a receiver.
QUESTION: Does the light fixture #Lk650RB attached to the center hub, wrap completely around the hub so that it hides the light bulbs if you are looking down at the ceiling fan? I have a loft in my house that will look down into the hallway where I plan to put this fan. I am looking for something like the school house globe #CFSSlk10RB but I do not care for the shape of that fixture.
ANSWER: Yes, the LK65ORB light kit from Emerson is covered on the top so it will look fine from the vantage point of your loft. The LK53ORB is also covered on the top and is a good choice if you like the look. Although it says it is rated for outdoor wet locations, it is perfectly fine to use indoors.
