Included Control (C21617): Remote Control for Palermo only.

Can I operate more than 1 fan from a single remote? Although it is possible to operate multiple ceiling fans from a single remote control, we do NOT recommend it with any brand. Doing so can cause your fans to get out of sync (one off and the other on, or one on high and the other on low) and getting them back in sync becomes quite a challenge. To avoid frustration, be sure to operate each fan from its own designated remote control.

Installation Info

Low, High or Vaulted Ceiling Installation Options

This ceiling fan can be installed on ceilings that are 8 or 9 feet high and can be angled up to 30 degrees without the need for any additional mounting hardware, so what is in the box will be sufficient. If you have a high ceiling or vaulted ceiling that is angled more than 30 degrees (or both), you may need a downrod or angled ceiling adapter in order to install your fan.

Minimum Ceiling Height Requirement: This fan requires a minimum ceiling height of at least 94.8" in order to meet building codes. If your ceiling is lower than 94.8" then you may need to add a flushmount adapter or close to ceiling dowrod if one is available for the fan (see below). If you cannot find what you need to make this fan work in your room, please give us a call so we can check to see if there are any further alternatives.

How does the Hunter Palermo Compare to the Average Ceiling Fan?

3
6,707
77
87
NA
Graph represents " blade span

Quality Rating = 3 (average is 3)
A Quality Rating of 3 is average. Fans with this rating are decent quality, but not the best. Although the Hunter Palermo ceiling fan will run smooth and quiet at the low and medium speeds, they may not operate as perfectly on high speed as fans rated 4 or 5 and may need more balancing during installation.

Airflow = 6707 CFM (average is about 5755)
6707 CFM is a good amount of aiflow and is above average. We highly recommend ceiling fans that move at least this amount of air in order to provide enough wind chill effect to keep you cool. the Hunter Palermo will allow you to raise your thermostat by several degrees, which will help you save additional money on your cooling bills.

Efficiency Rating = 77 CFM/Watt (average is about 86)
An Efficiency Rating of 77 is fairly average. Efficiency is defined by the EPA as the amount of airflow a fan produces (CFM) divided by the amount of electricity (Watts) it uses on high speed without any lights on. Efficiency is less important than Airflow because more CFMs allow you to raise your thermostat higher...which is where you will save the most energy. Efficiency becomes more important if you expect to operate several ceiling fans at the same time. (see calculator below)

Electrical Usage = 87 Watts (average is about 76)
87 Watts per hour is higher than average, so the Hunter Palermo costs a little more to operate than other fans. Use the calculator below to estimate just how much it will cost to operate this fan in "Your home".

Wind Speed Factor -vs- Efficiency: Wind Speed is KING! Ceiling fans can save you a lot on your energy bills if you use them properly to reduce your use of central air. Ceiling fans cool you off by creating a wind-chill effect, so the more wind speed a fan generates, the cooler it will make you feel. The cooler your ceiling fan can make you feel, the higher you can raise your AC thermostat to conserve energy without sacrificing your level of comfort. Raising your thermostat by 10 degrees can save you up to 40% on your cooling bills, but you cannot raise your thermostat by 10 degrees if you focus only on ceiling fans that use less energy rather than ones that generate higher wind speed. To put this in perspective: A typical central air system uses about 3500 Watts when it is running, so if a ceiling fan that uses 100 watts allows you to raise your thermostat a couple degrees higher than a more "efficient" fan that uses only 50 watts, the savings you will get by raising your AC therestat a couple degrees higher is far more than the difference of 50 watts between the two fans. With that said, a ceiling fan that uses less watts yet produces higher wind speed is a win-win.

Fan Size -vs- Wind Speed -vs- CFM

"When it comes to ceiling fan size...the largest fan with the highest wind speed that will look fine in the area is the best choice!"

Ceiling fans cool you off by creating a wind-chill effect, the degree of which is determined by the wind speed produced by the fan; the higher the wind speed, the cooler you feel. It is critical to know the following; CFM is not the same as wind speed; the wind chill effect you feel from a ceiling fan is concentrated in the column of air directly beneath the fan blades; the wind chill drops off dramatically just a foot or two outside that area.

Ceiling fan manufacturers are required by the DOE to publish the airflow of each fan in CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) which is not the same as wind speed. CFM is the volume of air being moved every minute, whereas wind speed how fast the air is moving in MPH (Miles per Hour) or LFM (Linear Feet per Minute), both of which are directly related to the amount of wind chill effect. When you compare two fans that are different sizes yet have the same CFM you will find they produce quite different wind speeds. The smaller fan must move air faster in order to move the same amount of air per minute (CFM) as the larger fan. The airflow generated by the smaller creates more wind chill because it is more concentrated and has a higher wind speed. The larger fan of equal CFM moves air over a larger area so it is less concentrated at a lower wind speed. So when determining what size fan to buy you must consider the amount of space a fan will cover (the diameter of the fan plus a foot or two), the intensity of the airflow directly beneath the fan (the wind speed) balanced with how any particular size fan will look or fit in the space. Ultimately the largest fan with the highest wind speed that will look fine in the area is the best choice for performance. Read More...

**Light Fixture Note
Important Note: Due to government legislation regarding the efficiency and wattage ceiling fan light fixtures (EPACT 2005) the fixture you receive may use a different bulb than what is described. This is because most manufacturers have rolling changes in their inventory in order to bring their fixtures into compliance, so there is no way to know which fixture the manufacturer will ship until all of their old inventory has been depleted. Most fixtures that used Medium Base Bulbs in the past will be changed to use Candelabra Base Bulbs. Also, since the legislation mandates that the total wattage of a ceiling fan light cannot exceed 190Watts, the maximium wattage of the bulbs may be lowered to meet this criteria and will most likely have a limiting fuse designed to trigger if you use bulbs that exceed this wattage.

QUESTION: We have the Palermo, model 21617 fan, for several years now and love it, it's over our kitchen eating area. We have developed a problem over the last several weeks with the remote controls. 1. You turn the light on and within a couple seconds to a few minutes it will turn itself off. 2. We have no reverse for the motor. 3. If you turn the light on and then try to change speed the light will turn off. Can You help with my problem. Thanks

ANSWER: After several years, it is not uncommon that the transmitter or receiver on a remote controlled device (such as your ceiling fan) will need to be replaced. Based on your description, it sounds like this is the case. I would suggest that you call Hunter directly and they will be able to help send you the parts to fix your fan. Call: 1-888-830-1326

QUESTION: I bought 3 Hunter Palermos with the choice of a dark or light blade side. They were installed yesterday and they look really cheap- like a laminate/veneer. I want some blades that are a real solid wood- maple or some light wood. Any suggestions - I want to replace ALL of the blades ASAP. They are very disappointing- and will cost more money to look nice. thanks.

ANSWER: Sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the look of the Hunter blades. Unfortunately, there are no alternatives for replacement blades on the Hunter Palermo fans. They have their own peculiar way of attaching and no other blades are designed to fit. Please be aware that the better brands of fans will not make blades from solid woods since they will quickly warp and cause a fan to wobble like crazy. An exception to this would be the wide decoratively carved blades, which are made from solid woods. However, such blades are very thick and heavy and used for decorative purposes only since they will not move much air. The use of Veneer blades may appear to be a compromise aesthetically, but they are actually more expensive to manufacture and because they are laminated in a cross grain manner with several layers, they do not warp like solid wood. Even in the furniture industry, there are applications where using a veneer is a better choice. I suspect that if the blades were finished differently, you might find them more appealing. We carry many fans where you can choose the blades that you like rather than be limited to what comes in the box. If you bought the fans from us, please give us a call and we will gladly work out a return or exchange. Where did you purchase the fans?

QUESTION: We have a similar fan that we bought about 6 years ago. it is all black and comes with a remote like this one. We moved away from the house for a while and when we moved back, we forgot how to switch the motor to run the other way, we se no visile switch on the outside, wondering if you8 could help since summer has arrived early in California Thank you for your time.

ANSWER: The Hunter Palermo ceiling fan is a remote controlled fan that has a reverse button on the remote control. If your fan is in fact a Hunter Palermo, it will have the Hunter logo in plain view on the side of the fan body as well on the remote transmitter itself. The reverse button is obvious on the control. So, it sounds to me like the fan you own is not a Hunter fan. This particular fan style has been very popular and was copied by several mass merchants who produce fans at other factories in China. Some of these companies cut corners and did not include a reverse feature on the remote control, but instead put a toggle switch on the top of the fan motor. So I would suggest that you look there. If the fan is a Hunter fan, then just use the reverse button on the remote. Here is a link to the Installation manual which also includes details on how to operate the Palermo fan:

ANSWER: Unfortunately, compact fluorescent bulbs are not dimmable. QUESTION: Hunter Palermo Ceiling Fan Model 21617. Does this fan only work with the remote, or should an electrician be able to wire this fan to a wall switch and be able to turn off the fan with the wall switch? My electrician has the light wired to the wall switch - and we can turn that on by the wall switch. But he says the only way to turn on the fan is by the remote. Is that true?

ANSWER: The Hunter Palermo ceiling fan is in fact a remote controlled fan. Hunter does not offer any alternatives for controlling the fan, so you cannot wire it to operate from a wall control.

QUESTION: is there an easy way to change the dip settings without removing the entire fan

ANSWER: It is possible to change the dip switches without removing the fan entirely from the ceiling. However, it pretty much entails the same procedure for removing the fan except that Hunter supplies a hook that will hold the fan up to in the air while you disconnect the wiring and access the remote transmitter. At this point, I find it easier to simply remove the fan from the ceiling. Here is a link to the installation manual that shows how this is done. Refer to pages 3 and 4:

QUESTION: I believe this is the fan I have although mine is white. Currently the light doesn't work - I replaced the bulb but still no luck - According to your parts list, it looks like the part #145 Globe Fitter #74769-01-232 could be what I need. Do you sell that particular part and if so, how much is it?

ANSWER: First, you must know for a fact that your fan is this model. If it is a Hunter fan, the Hunter logo will be found clearly on the side of the fan and the model number will be on a label attached to the top of the fan motor. If you do have this model, then it is very unlikely that the fixture is the cause of your problem. Most likely, it is the hand held remote transmitter or the receiver inside the fan that has gone bad. It could also be a loose wire where the fan connects to the electrical in the ceiling. Please check the wire connections first. If this is not the problem, then contact Hunter Customer Service at: 1-888-830-1326. They will gladly help you trouble shoot your problem and make sure you get your fan up and running like new.

QUESTION: I can't remove the glass to change the bulb. Is there a special trick to it? My husband and I have tried numerous times turning the glass counter clockwise but it won't budge. Help!!!

ANSWER: Pushing up on it gently while you turn it should work. Try turning it clockwise a bit first, then counter clockwise. Otherwise, I would suggest that you call Hunter directly and see if they can offer you a better solution. They are usually pretty good about taking care of people who have purchased their fans.
