Can this fan (Minka Aire Concept II 44 Ceiling Fan Model F518-BN) work with both the remote that ships with the fan and a wall switch? I want to use my existing double wall switch (1 controls the light and the ohter controls the fan). With this fan I would like to use one switch to control the light and the other to control the fan (3 speeds plus on and off). If so, I assume I can use a regular on and off switch for the light.....can you recommned a seperate switch for the fan control.
Answer: The Minka Aire Concept ceiling fans are remote controlled fans, therefore they have a receiver unit inside the fan that controls the electricity between the fan motor and the lights. You cannot use the type of wall controls that you have to operate the fan. Minka does make an optional wall control model WC212 that will communicate with the built-in receiver, so you can use it in conjunction with the remote control or by itself. This specialized control operates using radio frequency just like the hand held transmitter does and it fits into a single gang box and uses a single hot wire. So if you want to use the wall control in your setup, you would cap off the wires in one of your existing wall switches and install the Minka WC212 in place of the other.

Is it necessary to have a remote control for every fan or could two remote controls work with six fans?
Answer: Each fan will automatically come with a remote control, so you will have 6 remotes if you buy 6 fans. However, you can change the frequency of the remotes and receivers to work any combination of fans that you like from 1 or more controls. Keep in mind that the range of the transmitter is about 40 feet, so if any of the 3 fans you want to operate from a single control will be further than that distance from where you are standing, it is not a good idea to set them up that way. You may end up with 1 fan on and 2 fans off, and if you try again, you will have 2 fans on and 1 fan off, which can get rather frustrating.

What is the distance from the ceiling to the bottom of the fan blade, using the 3.5 inch down rod? Your graphic shows a 13.25" dimension, is this with the 6" or 3.5" downrods?
Answer: The Minka Aire Concept I Wet ceiling fans hang 13.25" from the ceiling with the 3.5" downrod. All of our ceiling fan dimensions are shown with the smallest downrod if more than 1 size comes with the fan.

I have only two wire power available and I noticed fan wiring is set up for three wire. Can I use two and if so would I be able to operate the light and fan independently from pull change or other?
Answer: The Minka Aire Volterra ceiling fan where you posted your question is discontinued as stated on our website, so it is really a mute point. However, that particular ceiling fan did not require a 3 wire system...just 2 wires. If you are referring to a different ceiling fan, please let me know what the brand and model of the fan is so that I can answer your question.

I have purchased two of the Downtown Loft fans (model F584) that I am trying to replace three old existing fans that ran off of one wall power switch. My question is, should I be able to hook both F584 fans up to the existing wiring, and have just the one wall on-off power switch - and then run each of the fans separately using the optional Remotes (RC212)?
Answer: You can use one of the wall controls that comes with the Downtown Loft to operate both ceiling fans if you set them to the same frequency. Or, you can do it how you described...use an on/off power switch to supply power to the ceiling fans and then operate each fan using the optional remote controls. You can set the remote controls to operate each fan separately or at the same time depending on the frequency the controls are set to.

We have 2 Concept II fans in rooms that are on different floors. When we use the wall mounted or hand held control for either one, it also causes the other to turn on or off. Is there a way to make the control operate only the fan in the room? Thanks
Answer: You need to change the dip switches on the remote transmitter and receiver to a different setting on one of your ceiling fans. The dip switches control the frequency at which the fan operates. Right now, your two ceiling fans are operating on the same frequency. Refer to the Minka Aire Concept II Owners Manual for specific instructions on changing the dip switches.

Electricity feeding the porch is controlled by a switch which presently controls outdoor lighting. I will to feed the fan from the same switch so I assume I will need to control the fan from a remote control and not a wall switch. Is this possible? I am considering the Minka Aire Concept 52 I or II
Answer: Not a problem..you can purchase a remote control separately that will operate the Minka Aire Concept I and II Wet Outdoor ceiling fans. Just click on the button for "Controls" on the product detail page of either fan and you will see the remote control option. Keep in mind that Minka Aire does not have a Wet rating on the remote transmitter, so you do not want to get it wet or leave it outside. So basically, store the remote transmitter indoors when you are not outside using it.

I am wanting to install a new ceiling fan in a very small room. The light fixture is very close to the ceiling vent. Is there a recommended clearance from a AC vent in the ceiling to the center of a ceiling fan?
Answer: Good question...for which I do not have a definitive answer because none of the major ceiling fan manufacturers have addressed this issue in any publication that I am aware of. So left to my own logic and experience, I will say this: Air blowing down from the AC vent onto the fan blades will cause the fan to wobble, so the fan needs to be far enough away to prevent that from happening (how far being your question). I am going to suggest that an additional clearance of 24" would be adequate. So in order to calculate the distance to the center of the fan from the vent, you need to first know the radius of the blade sweep, which is half of the overall blade span. So, for a 44" fan such as the Minka Aire Concept II that you are considering, the center of the fan should be about 46" from the edge of the vent...that is half the blade span of 44" is 22" plus an extra 24" clearance. Logic would say that if you have vents that angle outward and have a very powerful air conditioning fan, you may want to add even more than 24", whereas if your vents blow directly downward, you can most likely allow less than 24".

I am considering installing 2 of these fans on the ceiling of my deck outdoors at the lake. I get a lot of very strong wind off the lake. Can these fans withstand a lot of wind? A typical ceiling fan can not. The blades shear off at the point they connect to the fan.
Answer: The Minka Aire Gyro ceiling fans are a great choice for outdoor locations where high winds are common because they do not have the normal blade irons that tend to break off. The construction is quite substantial and we have had good success with the durability of this fan.
