Can I operate more than 1 fan from a single remote? Although it is possible to operate multiple ceiling fans from a single remote control, we do NOT recommend it with any brand. Doing so can cause your fans to get out of sync (one off and the other on, or one on high and the other on low) and getting them back in sync becomes quite a challenge. To avoid frustration, be sure to operate each fan from its own designated remote control.

Low, High or Vaulted Ceiling Installation Options

This is a Flushmounted ceiling fan, so it cannot be installed on angled ceilings. Flush mount ceiling fans are designed specifically for rooms with ceilings lower than 8 feet and do not perform well in rooms with higher ceilings.

Indoor and Outdoor Limitations

Indoor Application

UL Listed for Indoor use only

The Minka Aire Concept II 44 is UL Listed for Indoor use only, so it is not designed to be exposed to moisture or harsh elements. Do not install this fan outside your house. It is also not recommended for bathrooms that have a shower or tub or laundry rooms, both of which produce excessive amounts of moisture.

How does the Minka Aire Concept II 44 Compare to the Average Ceiling Fan?

4
4,600
115
40
4.95
Wind Speed: 4.95 MPH (435.64 LFM)
(Graph represents 44" blade span)

Quality Rating = 4 (average is 3)
A Quality Rating of 4 is above average, the Minka Aire Concept II 44 ceiling fan will run smooth and quiet and will give you many years of operation with no worries of the motor burning out.

Note: CFM and Wind Speed are calculated using standard shaped 44" blades. The size and shape of the blades will alter the performance dramatically. For example: Palm style and carved wood leaf shaped blades can reduce performance by as much as 50%!

Airflow = 4600 CFM | Wind Speed = 4.95 MPH.
4600 CFM is below average, so don't expect to feel much of a breeze from this fan unless you are directly beneath it. Fans with this low of a CFM rating will not provide enough breeze for larger rooms. If you are concerned about whether or not the Minka Aire Concept II 44 will move enough air for your needs, please give us a call and we will help you make the determination. This fan may not allow you to raise your thermostat, so do not expect to save much on your cooling bills (if you have AC).

Efficiency Rating = 115 CFM/Watt (average is about 86)
An Efficiency Rating of 115 is well above average. Efficiency is defined by the EPA as the amount of airflow a fan produces (CFM) divided by the amount of electricity (Watts) it uses on high speed without any lights on. Efficiency is less important than Airflow because more CFMs allow you to raise your thermostat higher...which is where you will save the most energy. Efficiency becomes more important if you expect to operate several ceiling fans at the same time. (see calculator below)

Electrical Usage = 40 Watts (average is about 76)
40 Watts per hour is well below average, which is excellent because the Minka Aire Concept II 44 will cost less to operate than the average ceiling fan. Use the calculator below to estimate just how much it will cost to operate this fan in "Your home".

CFM -vs- Efficiency: CFM is KING! It is more important to buy a fan with higher CFMs than it is to buy a fan that uses less electricity. The highest wattage consumed by the most energy guzzling ceiling fan on our website is about 120 watts. So if you input 120 as the fan watts and run our calculator, you will see that it still costs less than 2 cents per hour to operate the most energy guzzling ceiling fan in most states. You will get more savings with a higher CFM fan than a lower Wattage fan because if your fan moves more air you will be able to raise your thermostat to a higher degree. Raising your thermostat by 10 degrees can save you up to 40% on your cooling bills. Choosing a less powerful fan because it uses less electricity can be the worst mistake you can make because it will not cool you off enough to allow you to raise your thermostat to a high enough level without becoming uncomfortable. This is why CFM is so much more important to consider than Wattage.

Fan Size -vs- Wind Speed -vs- CFM

"When it comes to ceiling fan size...the largest fan with the highest wind speed that will look fine in the area is the best choice!"

Ceiling fans cool you off by creating a wind-chill effect, the degree of which is determined by the wind speed produced by the fan; the higher the wind speed, the cooler you feel. It is critical to know the following; CFM is not the same as wind speed; the wind chill effect you feel from a ceiling fan is concentrated in the column of air directly beneath the fan blades; the wind chill drops off dramatically just a foot or two outside that area.

Ceiling fan manufacturers are required by the DOE to publish the airflow of each fan in CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) which is not the same as wind speed. CFM is the volume of air being moved every minute, whereas wind speed how fast the air is moving in MPH (Miles per Hour) or LFM (Linear Feet per Minute), both of which are directly related to the amount of wind chill effect. When you compare two fans that are different sizes yet have the same CFM you will find they produce quite different wind speeds. The smaller fan must move air faster in order to move the same amount of air per minute (CFM) as the larger fan. The airflow generated by the smaller creates more wind chill because it is more concentrated and has a higher wind speed. The larger fan of equal CFM moves air over a larger area so it is less concentrated at a lower wind speed. So when determining what size fan to buy you must consider the amount of space a fan will cover (the diameter of the fan plus a foot or two), the intensity of the airflow directly beneath the fan (the wind speed) balanced with how any particular size fan will look or fit in the space. Ultimately the largest fan with the highest wind speed that will look fine in the area is the best choice for performance. Read More...

**Light Fixture Note
Important Note: Due to government legislation regarding the efficiency and wattage ceiling fan light fixtures (EPACT 2005) the fixture you receive may use a different bulb than what is described. This is because most manufacturers have rolling changes in their inventory in order to bring their fixtures into compliance, so there is no way to know which fixture the manufacturer will ship until all of their old inventory has been depleted. Most fixtures that used Medium Base Bulbs in the past will be changed to use Candelabra Base Bulbs. Also, since the legislation mandates that the total wattage of a ceiling fan light cannot exceed 190Watts, the maximium wattage of the bulbs may be lowered to meet this criteria and will most likely have a limiting fuse designed to trigger if you use bulbs that exceed this wattage.

Ceiling Fans Question - Minka Aire Model F518-BN

    View model F518-BN
    F518-BN - http://www.hansenwholesale.com/ceilingfans/minkaaire/model.asp?ProdNo=F518-BN

QUESTION: I know you can not use 52 inch blades on a 44 inch fan, but can you do the opposite? Our 52 inch fan blades are just a bit too long for the space we have the fan mounted in. If so, do you sell44 inch replacement blades? Thank you!

ANSWER: Installing smaller blades on a fan that is designed for larger blades will produce less drag on the motor, which causes it to operate at a higher RPM. In many cases, RPM will be higher than the motor was designed to handle, and it may also operate at an RPM that is considered unsafe by UL standards. So there are very few cases where you can put smaller blades on a larger fan. The cases where this would be appropriate are specific to certain models by certain brands. In most cases, smaller blades are not even available to fit the brackets for a fan, so it is a mute point since you cannot even find smaller blades that will fit.

If you are referring to the Minka Aire Concept II F518-BN where you posted your question, the answer is no, you should not use smaller blades on this fan because they will spin too fans and most likely overheat the motor. You will notice that the 44" version of the fan has a smaller motor so that the RPMs are controlled.

If you own a different model and can tell me the brand and model number of the fan you own I may be able to offer more insight.

QUESTION: Where is the Minka Celing fan made?

ANSWER: Minka Aire ceiling fans are all made in China, which is where virtually all ceiling fans sold in the USA are made. This does not mean that they are not good quality. You will find that most Minka Aire ceiling fans have a quality rating of 3 or 4 on ours site. Minka Aire actually manufactures several of the top selling ceiling fans in the USA and we have an exceptionally good track record with us since we have been selling them online for over 15 years. FYI: There are in fact NO ceiling fans that are manufactured in the USA. Read more about this here: Where are ceiling fans made?.

QUESTION: Can this fan (Minka Aire Concept II 44 Ceiling Fan Model F518-BN) work with both the remote that ships with the fan and a wall switch? I want to use my existing double wall switch (1 controls the light and the ohter controls the fan). With this fan I would like to use one switch to control the light and the other to control the fan (3 speeds plus on and off). If so, I assume I can use a regular on and off switch for the light.....can you recommned a seperate switch for the fan control.

ANSWER: The Minka Aire Concept ceiling fans are remote controlled fans, therefore they have a receiver unit inside the fan that controls the electricity between the fan motor and the lights. You cannot use the type of wall controls that you have to operate the fan. Minka does make an optional wall control model WC212 that will communicate with the built-in receiver, so you can use it in conjunction with the remote control or by itself. This specialized control operates using radio frequency just like the hand held transmitter does and it fits into a single gang box and uses a single hot wire. So if you want to use the wall control in your setup, you would cap off the wires in one of your existing wall switches and install the Minka WC212 in place of the other.

QUESTION: We have 2 Concept II fans in rooms that are on different floors. When we use the wall mounted or hand held control for either one, it also causes the other to turn on or off. Is there a way to make the control operate only the fan in the room? Thanks

ANSWER: You need to change the dip switches on the remote transmitter and receiver to a different setting on one of your ceiling fans. The dip switches control the frequency at which the fan operates. Right now, your two ceiling fans are operating on the same frequency. Refer to the Minka Aire Concept II Owners Manual for specific instructions on changing the dip switches.

QUESTION: Is there room in the mounting plate to cover an electrical junction box on the ceiling that is one and a half inches deep?

ANSWER: All flush mounted ceiling fans require the junction box to be recessed into the ceiling such that it is flush with the ceiling. There is no room inside the motor casing to accommodate a junction box. I am about 99 percent certain that this statement holds true for any brand and model of hugger fan on the market.

QUESTION: Is the Minka Air Concept II 44 inch ceiling fan made in USA? If not, where is it manufactured?

ANSWER: There are NO ceiling fans made in the USA! Virtually all ceiling fans are made in China (including all Minka Aire ceiling fans) aside from a few models that are made in other countries. This is not a bad thing (aside from any political opinions) if the company having the fans made in China has control over the quality of the products that are produced like Minka Aire does. QUESTION: I need a Stainless steel hugger fan with the lowest profile poss.

QUESTION: I am looking for the "52 silver fan blades as a replacement for my current "44 fan blades for the Minka Aire Concept II. Is this something that you carry?

ANSWER: The blades for the 52" Concept fans cannot be used on the 44" model. If you compare the specifications of the 2 fans, you will find that the 52" Concept has a larger motor. This is because the larger blades require more power to move them through the air. The 44" motor does not have enough torque to drive the 52" blades, so putting the larger blades on the smaller fan will cause it to overheat and eventually fail. There would also be a substantial reduction in airflow because the additional weight and size of the blades would cause the smaller motor to operate at lower RPM.

Bottom line is, either keep the 44" Concept where it is, or move it to a different location and replace it with a 52" Concept.
