Choosing the right ceiling fans for your home is probably best approached by first selecting an appropriate style or type because you certainly want your ceiling fan to fit in with your decor. If your fan will be installed outdoors or in a damp or wet location, you are going to want a fan that is UL listed for use outdoors. Damp rated fans cannot be exposed directly to rain, whereas wet rated fans can. A covered patio would normally use a damp rated fan, where a gazebo would use a wet rated fan. You can use a wet rated fan in a damp location, but you cannot use a damp rated fan in a wet location.
