Propane Gas Logs
Vented gas logs must be burned with the damper open in a fireplace capable of burning wood!
Vented gas logs must be burned with the damper open because they produce exhaust similar to that of a real wood burning fire. They must be installed in a fireplace that is capable of burning wood. If you have a "Gas Only" fireplace, you must not install gas logs in it. Gas only fireplaces have a flue that is too small in diameter and cannot handle the heat and exhaust that vented gas logs produce.
What are the advantages of Vented Gas Logs...
By far, the best benefit of vented gas logs is their great looking roaring fire. There is no comparison between the look of the flame of a vented gas log versus a ventless log. The fire is very yellow and natural looking just like a real fire and will create the warm cozy atmosphere that is so greatly desired from your fireplace.
There are also less restrictions on the use of vented gas logs. Since you will be burning the fire with the damper open, there is little risk of fumes coming into the home (unlike ventless gas logs).
Vented gas logs also have many more log styles and burner options to choose from, which will give you the most flexibility in choosing the perfect logs for your fireplace.
Vented gas logs also come in more sizes than other logs, ranging from 12" to 60" in width. So if you have an extremely small or large fireplace, you can always find a size that will look perfect.
Why are R. H. Peterson Gas Logs the Best!
Peterson has been making gas logs in the USA for over 50 Years!
There is no question that R. H. Peterson is the leader in the Gas Log industry. They have been making gas logs in the USA longer than any other company. They have more styles and sizes to choose from, and their burner systems are superior to all others on the market. With over 30 different gas log styles ranging in sizes from 12" to 60", you can always find a gas log made by R. H. Peterson to fit your fireplace and look great!.
Aside from their great selection, their quality is unmatched. Every one of their gas logs is meticulously crafted using the finest clay ceramic mixture. Unlike other brands, their logs are reinforced with rebar for additional durability. Where other brands will crack and crumble after a short period of time, Peterson logs will last you a lifetime.
Many of the logs made by R. H. Peterson have hand painted details, giving them a more authentic look. With deep bark relief and charred looking edges, Peterson gas logs look like real wood and burn like a real fire (hence the name Real Fyre).
One of the biggest advantages that Peterson has over other gas log manufacturers is the fact that they have also been making barbecues for over 50 years, so they have more experience designing gas burner systems. Their innovation when it comes to gas log burners leaves their competition behind. As a matter of fact, when you combine all of the burner, control and log style options they have...there are over 8,000 possible complete gas log sets to choose from. Unfortunately, this creates problems for some Peterson dealers, because it is impossible to stock all of these options. This is why most dealers (including those online) will only offer a few of the options that are really available.
Peterson Gas Logs will last longer and look better than other brands!
It's true. The actual logs made by R. H. Peterson are manufactured with a special blend of various clays and high temperature refractory materials that will hold up to the elements better than any other brand. Plus, there are more styles of logs to choose from including charred logs, split logs, and full round logs in Oak, Pine, Cedar and more.
Do these logs cost more than other brands?
Peterson logs are not the least expensive logs on the market, but they are very well priced compared to other brands that do not have stainless steel burners and have logs that will crack and crumble when exposed to the elements. But wouldn't you rather spend a little more up front rather than have to replace your logs in a couple years? No doubt. Plus, they are not that much more expensive...particularly when you purchase them from Hansen Wholesale because we do offer Guaranteed Lowest Prices. We want to make sure you are satisfied with your purchase and that you get the best deal possible.
Why buy your Peterson Gas Logs from Hansen Wholesale?
Unlike other online dealers, our warehouse and main office is only minutes away from the Peterson Gas Log Factory. We get deliveries from Peterson once or twice a week, depending on the time of year. This gives us a unique advantage in that we can offer you every item that Peterson manufacturers, instead of limiting our selection to what we have in stock. It also gives us the ability to save a bundle on shipping costs since we do not have to pay to ship heavy loads of gas logs across the country, then ship them to you. So we can offer lower prices, quicker delivery and FREE SHIPPING!
The one drawback is that, since we can offer you so many options...it can be confusing to say the least, and hard to know which gas log and burner combination to choose. So to make things easy for you, we have experts on staff to help you decide which combination is going to be the best for your fireplace and your budget.
We have been gas log experts for over 30 years now, which gives us a level of experience that is hard to find these days. Our gas log experts will not only make sure you get what you need, but will make sure that the gas logs you purchase are safe for your fireplace. I, for example, the editor of this website, have personally installed over 3,000 gas logs in my career as a fireplace professional.
How do I measure my fireplace for gas logs!
Installing the right size gas logs in your fireplace is very important, because if your burner is too large, it could cause the safety valve to melt, and if your logs are too small, they will look odd in your fireplace.
Our site makes it really easy to determine the correct size gas logs you need for your outdoor fireplace. Simply measure the width "Inside" your fireplace in the middle at least 7" from the front. This is where the burner will sit. Then measure the depth from front to back. Once you have selected the type of gas you are going to be burning, you will find a place to enter those dimensions. Our site will then calculate the correct size gas logs for you. It's as easy as that. Click here for more details
Natural Gas and Liquid Propane...what are the differences?
Natural Gas
If you are burning Natural Gas, you do not need any special controls to operate your vented fireplace gas logs. Simply strike a long match or lighter, turn the gas on...and wallah!...your logs are burning and you can enjoy them for as long as you wish. Turn them off by turning off your gas valve. However, some cities and states require that your gas logs meet ANSI standards, which requires that your burner has a safety pilot that is installed and tested at the factory before it can meet this approval
You will find that R. H. Peterson offers the largest selection of ANSI approved burners and safety pilots for natural gas than any other brand on the market. You will find all of them on our site, but we suggest that you give us a call so we can explain the differences to you over the phone. This will save you a lot of head scratching!
Liquid Propane
Unlike Natural Gas, Liquid Propane gas logs require that you use a safety pilot. This is because LP gas is heavier than air, so if for some reason someone turns the gas on without lighting the logs, the gas will puddle in the home creating a potential hazard. The safety pilot eliminates this possibility by igniting the gas as soon as it is turned on. If the pilot is not lit, there is a special safety valve that remains shut, so the gas cannot be turned on.
So R. H. Peterson has a large selection of safety pilots designed specifically for use with Liquid Propane. Again, our gas log experts will help you decide which one is best for you.
Remote Controls and Other Options
R. H. Peterson has a vast array control options including; on/off remote controls, thermostatically actuated remote controls, remote controls that will adjust the flame height, wall controls, and others. Each burner and safety pilot combination will have it's own variety of control options...which is where buying your gas logs will be most confusing. Again, I cannot emphasize the importance of calling us to avoid a potential migraine on your part trying to figure all of this out.
