Light pollution is an issue in nearly every major city, and many smaller towns are starting to see the effects of this problem as well. To help rectify the issue, people have banded together to start the Dark Sky Movement, which intends to decrease light pollution using outdoor lights called dark sky lighting. Not only does light pollution prevent us from observing the night sky, it can disrupt ecosystems and natural environments by tricking plants and animals into thinking that it is still daytime. Rustic décor is one of our very favorite interior design styles, and it’s not hard to see why. This school is all about creating spaces that are at once warm, welcoming and inspired by the nature around us. In practice, that means incorporating lots of unfinished wood, neutral tones and earthy textures. It also means bringing in anything and everything that cozies up a space—roaring wood fires, intricately woven oriental rugs and the three Bs: brass, baskets and blankets. It also often means decorating with rustic ceiling fans that tie the room together.
