A White Ceiling Fan May Be Your Best Choice for Smaller Rooms!
White ceiling fans are the most commonly used ceiling fans ever. White fans are so popular because more ceilings are white than any other color, and in smaller rooms where the fan is more for function than for beauty, white is the best choice. The beauty of a white ceiling fan is that it blends in with the ceiling (providing the ceiling is white). A white ceiling fan is particularly usefule in a smaller room with an average or lower than average ceiling, simply because it blends in so well and is less overwhelming in the room. Fans that contrast with the ceiling will appear to be hovering over your head and will make you feel like the fan is hanging lower than it would if a white fan had been installed. Plus, since a white ceiling fan will blend in so well with the ceiling, you can get away with using a normal sized fan in a smaller room rather than a small fan. Using a normal sized ceiling fan in a smaller room gives you 2 advantages. 1) You will have a much larger selection of fans to choose from since the selection is very limited with smaller fans. 2) You will get much better performance from a normal size ceiling fan, so you will feel more comfortable and will not need to run the fan on high speed all the time to feel anything.

Although the EPA now requires fan manufacturers to publish the CFM ratings of their fans, there is no standardized scientific method of determining what size and CFM fan is best for any given application. A few quick searches and you will find that each ceiling fan manufacturer interprets this differently. So we created our own size and CFM recommendation chart to give you an idea what we recommend for "typical" applications. We produced this chart based on over 20 years of experience dealing with ceiling fans and the people who we've sold them to. For the most part, this chart will suffice. If you have low ceilings, you can fudge a little on the CFM and use a fan in the lesser range of the room size. If you have high ceilings, you need more CFM and a fan closer to the larger size of the chart. In most cases, the more the CFM the better and the higher the quality score the better!
