Energy Star Ceiling Fans
Ceiling Fan Tip: Ceiling fans that have the EnergyStar label must meet specific requirements set by the EPA. Keep in mind that manufacturers must submit fans for additional testing and pay a substantial fee in order to bare the EnergyStar label. So there are many fans that just as efficient or even more efficient than EnergyStar standards, but manufacturers do not have the label to keep the cost down. For example, most ceiling fans with DC motors are far more efficient than a typical EnergyStar fan, but they most likely do not have the label because they are already pricey enough.
