Fan FAQ: Low Profile Ceiling fans mount flush to the ceiling rather than hanging from a downrod. They are designed for small areas or rooms with ceilings that are between 7 1/2 feet and 8 feet high. Low Ceiling Building Codes: National building codes require the fan blades themselves to be at least 7 feet from the floor and the closest any flushmount fan blades are to the ceiling is about 5". So you cannot install any ceiling fan in a room where the ceiling is lower than 7 feet 5 inches. So if you are looking for ceiling fans for a 7 foot high ceiling, there is no such thing. Check the dimensions for the fans you are considering on our site to make sure the blades will not be less than 7 feet from the floor once the fan is installed.
Performance: Hugger fans are notorious for their lack of airflow because the shorter distance from the blades to the ceiling can prevent the air from flowing around the blades properly. So the design and quality of a hugger fan must be even better than a traditional fan in order for it to be effective. Most flush-mount fans that are less than $100 will move very little air. To ensure that the flushmount ceiling fan you buy moves enough air to cool you off, look for fans with the Highest Quality and CFM ratings.
