Project 10026 - Fireplace Door Mock-Ups

Glass Doors for Rock Fireplace with Grate Heater

Opening Size: 58" W x 31 1/2"H

Customer Notes: We're thinking of getting a glass door for this massive hole, 58" x 31.5". We bought a gas log heater and the front bar is 1 3/8" x 28". I am able to integrate it with a glass door supposedly by raising the glass door 1 3/8" higher. Unfortunately, the front bar doesn't extend to the length of the opening leaving a gap on both sides of tube bar. Do you have a glass door that has vents on the bottom to allow the hot air to blow out into the room? Thank you for your time.

Our Comments: We can custom make most of the doors on our website with either a riser bar with holes in it, or with a frame that is cut out to fit your vents. Here is an example of the Design Specialties Legend Door made with vent cutouts. An application like this with a rough stone fireplace should fit inside and the gaps will need to be filled with mortar. We can also do an outside fit if the stones are very flat, but there will be gaps between the frame and the stone that you may still need to fill with mortar. In this case, both are the same amount of work, but the inside fit looks much nicer.

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
