Project 10095 - Fireplace Door Mock-Ups
Glass Doors for Prefabricated Fireplace
Customer Comments: Stiletto or Other
I have Goldon Blount Alphine linear burner that I will insert into fireplace with some 1/4" copper fireglass. Now, I just need door. Will 1/4" doors be OK to be closed with this linear kit as it is controlled heat and will not put out excessive heat like real wood or large gas log kit? I have 2-9/16" tall brick extruding (1/2") lip around face of fireplace so overlap would be about 1" for it not to hide the brick lip (see photo). What top two firedoors would you recommendation as this remodel look is now more contemporary than traditional and do you think cutback if needed for this fireplace?
Fireplace Measurements: 42 1/2"W x 26 3/8"H
Lintel is setback 1 1/4"
Our Comments: The 1/4" glass can handle the heat of a real wood fire, much less the heat from your gas fire. Unfortunately, you cannot burn any gas log or gas appliance in your fireplace with the doors closed. Page 1 of the owners manual for your Alpine burner states that clearly. The aluminum doors with cutback frames are not really appropriate for brick fireplace openings with mortar joints that are like yours. There is not enough overlap and you will see gaps between the mortar joints. As you suggested, a 1" overlap is actually quite appropriate. We have created two examples, one using an affordable aluminum door (the Brookfield) and one with a higher end steel door (the Legend). We recommend the Legend because it has a much higher look of quality as it is made of 3/16" thick solid steel where the Brookfield is made from powder coated aluminum. The final choice between these two doors usually is dictated by the budget. There are links to each of the doors beneath the pictures so you can get an idea of the prices and options.
Important Note: We cannot create mockups showing doors that are open because the images do not exist. Please note as stated above, we want to make it very clear that you cannot burn your gas fire with the doors closed as shown in these examples.
Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
