Project 10121 - Glass Doors for Brick Fireplace with Ledge

Fireplace Opening: 36 1/2" W x 25 1/2" H
Our Comments: When treating fireplaces like this that have a ledge across the top of the opening, the door must be made shorter than the ledge by at least 1/4" to guarantee that the door will fit under the ledge due to irregularities in the ledge bricks and the hearth. We highly recommend making the door to the height of the top of the last brick below the ledge (see Before2 below). The gap will then need to be filled with mortar and painted. This will look best because the mortar joint will follow the natural mortar joint between the brick and the ledge across the opening. Also, notice the gap between the bricks on the hearth and the actual firebox. This will likely need to be filled with mortar as well (see Before2 below).

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
