Project 10123 - Glass Doors for Large Stone Fireplace

Customer Request: Would like to see glass door options for a fireplace this large

Our Comments: The rule of thumb for making glass doors for very large openings is that we must keep each panel of glass smaller than 3 square feet. In order to do this on your fireplace, we either need to make a wider frame to reduce the size of the glass panels or add fixed end panels on each side. We have created examples of both.

Fireplace Opening Size: 60" W x 40" H.

Note: These mock-ups are digitally created and meant to be used as a visualization tool only. The door frames are not exactly to scale and the finishes we attempt to replicate may not be accurate and will look different on every device. Figure #2: This is an example of a Brookfield door with fixed end panels. This is an aluminum door and is the least expensive type of door for large fireplaces but is less sturdy.

Mesh Options

These options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
