Project 10171 - Glass Doors Faux Stone Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hello, we have re-faced our fireplace and installed a propane gas log fireplace. Last job is to install a new door. We want a bifold glass rectangular Inside Fit door in Rustic Black to match other metal elements in our living room. We have a Masonry Fireplace with the original brick having been covered with faux rock. Please see attached photos. Please note that our firebox is 3/4" below the hearth.

We have removed the sloped mortar from the hearth down to the firebox floor and wish to locate the bottom frame against this lip thus we will require a frame depth that allows the doors to open above the hearth, my estimate is greater or equal to 1.5”. This will allow two things: 1.we can locate the door such that the top frame will sit outside the Lintel against the edge of the rocks and, 2. The height of the bottom frame above the bottom of the firebox is sufficiently low to meet propane gas fire log requirements. We have the R H Peterson Charred Evergreen Oak Real Fyre G52-24-2VPA Propane Burner with ENO-24 Logs.

Our Comments: After reviewing these details I agree that the Stiletto door is a great choice. I would suggest simply letting it sit on the hearth instead of trying to drop it down behind the hearth. The Stiletto has a very narrow bottom draft assembly, so it would only drop below the hearth by about 1/4" if you put it behind the hearth and it would have not support under the frame. I would also suggest using the cutback frame option, which would allow you to make the door come closer to the lintel.

Fireplace Opening: 44" W x 23 3/4" H

The door frames are not exactly to scale and the finishes we attempt to replicate may not be accurate and will look different on every device. Figure #1: If we make the door sit on the hearth, take the measurement as shown on your template from the hearth to the bottom of the lintel (or top of your template).
Figure #2: This picture shows how the hearth inside the fireplace drops down 3/4" below the hearth outside.

Mesh Options

These options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
