Project 10200 - Glass Doors for Contemporary Fireplace
Customer Request: Attached is the current opening of my fireplace. It is 36 inches wide by 18 inches high. The left, top and right side openings are surrounded by 1/4 inch thick tile to the door has to somehow mount to that. Also the bottom mortar of the opening is half inch above the top of the tile edge so need to cove that gap. I am looking for a simple clean look with two dark glass cabinet style doors with no handle or a small slim handle. I would like to have all black border and make the opening look visually more horizontal by having a thicker border on the left and right sides. I am going to stain the inside brick black but still would like dark glass. Note, going for simple, clean, modern, minimalist look.
Our Comments: We have selected a door called the Slim Moderne for your application. This door is very sleek and minimalist looking and has no handles. The doors open like a typical kitchen cabinet door that is designed to have no handles, so they project out from the outer frame slightly so you can get your fingers over the edge to open them. We have used non-reflective black glass that you cannot see through for this illustration. You can actually have this made as a single door if you wish, although it will look very unbalanced when you burn the fire with the door open. We have included some actual pictures of the Moderne single door taken from the factory showroom.
Fireplace Opening: 36" W x 18" H
Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
