Project 10241 - Glass Doors for Historic Home Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hello! I have a natural limestone faced fireplace that I am wanting to update with new doors. Mine has louvered doors, which I like since my hearth is only 14" deep. When I want to have the doors open and just use the mesh curtains, they don't stick out. Mine also has an adjustable vent at the bottom that lets me control how much heat I let in the livingroom (or perhaps it lets air in to the fire?), which I like. I have viewed your gallery and like the Buckingham, Madrid, and Craftsman styles. I prefer the vintage or forged iron finish, or the rustic black. My fireplace opening measurements are ~42" wide (with slight variability due to limestones), ~26" high on the left and 26.5" on the right as you look at it from front. These measurements are taken from inside. However, the existing fireplace doors insert measures 43" wide by 29" high on the outside as you look at it, and I can feel some sort of insulation pad behind it. I would be very interested in your recommendations and viewing some mockups. Thank you!

Our Comments: On a stone fireplace like yours we normally recommend making the door as an inside fit and then filling the gap between the frame and the stones with mortar. However, if you are comfortable with how the current door looks fitting on the outside, we can make any of these doors as an overlap fit. In this case, we would recommend filling the gaps with mortar as well instead of using insulation as is done in your current application. In the mockups, we created the first two doors as inside fits and the second two as outside fits. If you want either of the inside fitting doors made to fit outside the opening, we would make them with a wider frame to help cover the gaps between the frame and the stone.

Note: These mock-ups are digitally created and meant to be used as a visualization tool only. The door frames are not exactly to scale and the finishes we attempt to replicate may not be accurate and will look different on every device. Mesh Options

These options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
