Project 10261 - Glass Doors for Arched Fireplace

Customer Comments: Width is 44” x height 37.5” (top of arch). Looking for basic black no frills glass doors to seal off the draft. Don’t care if it covers up the arch with rectangle. What would be your most economical option?

Our Comments: The tallest stock rectangular door we have that is wide enough to fit your fireplace is 31 1/2" tall. So, we have provided 3 different options that are the least expensive of each option. We are going to need to know the actual opening height on the left and right sides and in the middle in order to determine how any of these 3 options will actually work out, but suffice to say, none of them will actually be able to cover the top of the arch because it projects out from the fireplace and is most likely too wide to fit inside the door frame.

Fireplace Opening: 44" W x ? Tall

Note: These mock-ups are digitally created and meant to be used as a visualization tool only. The door frames are not exactly to scale and the finishes we attempt to replicate may not be accurate and will look different on every device. Before
Before:
Poor Man's Arch
Poor Man's Arch Option #1: We call this "The Poor Man's Arch". In this case, we would use the Bungalow Stock Door Model BG46315 in a powder coat finish (shown in rustic black). We would then make a steel plate the shape of the arch to fill the gap between the door and the arch. The plate would be made in the same powder coat finish as the door.
Bungalow
Poor Man's Arch Option #2: Custom Bungalow Door in a powder coat finish (shown in rustic black). This door would be made as tall as possible to cover as much of the arch as we can with the frame. The frame can overlap up to 3", so how this fits depends on the difference between the short side of the arch and the high point in the middle. If it is less than 3", there will be no gap in the arch. However, because the arch projects out from the fireplace, this will leave a gap on each side of the frame that will need to be filled with mortar. We do not believe this is a very good solution.
Custom Arch
Custom Arch Fireplace Door Option #3: Have a door custom made to fit your arch. The example shown is the Black Rock Arch Makeover. We used this example only because the picture we had was the same shape as your arch. The least expensive arched door would be the Legend Arch shown below.
Surround
Poor Man's Arch Option #4: This option shows a solid steel surround with returned sides that are as thick as the arched brick overhang so that it is like a box over the entire opening including the arch. We then use the same Bungalow Stock Door Model BG46315 in a powder coat finish (shown in rustic black).

Mesh Options

These options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
