Project 10262 - Glass Doors for Fireplace with Brick Columns

Customer Measurements:
Width 35 3/4" (very little variation, roughly 1/8”)

Height hearth to top brick face
Min (left side) 24 1/2"
Max (rt side) 25"

Height hearth to lintel
Min (left side) 24 1/4"
Max (rt side) 24 1/2"

Our Comments: Fireplaces like this require glass doors custom made to fit between the columns and can overlap the top or fit completely inside the opening. In this case, we recommend overlapping the top because we need the door frame to cover the gap in the hearth at the bottom. We have chosen the Silhouette door for this application because it has a narrow frame that will not shrink the opening much yet a wide enough frame to overlap the top and still leave room for a mesh curtain or mesh panel doors behind the glass while still clearing the lintel. This door projects 1 3/4" from the fireplace face, which is ample to cover the gap at the bottom where the hearth is open (see Fig# 6 below). We suggest making the door 3/8" less in width on each side (3/4" less in width overall) and overlapping the top 1/4" at the highest point.

Recommended Make To Size (overall frame size): 35" W x 25 1/4" H

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
