Project 10288 - Glass Doors for Rock Fireplace

Customer Comments: I am interested in purchasing one of your fireplace doors. I have been looking at your photo gallery online and I like the Carolina in either mahogany or autumn, but I am also interested in your suggestions. Our house was built during the 1980s. We are the second owners and purchased our home in 1993. We have not used our fireplace in many years because when the wind blows (which is most of the time because the house sits high on a natural ledge and we are fairly near the ocean), we inevitably get an unacceptable amount of smoke coming into the house. We had our chimney checked, cleaned regularly and purchased a vac-u-stack from a professional. The problem continued so we stopped using the fireplace altogether, which is ok with us, but we still need new fireplace doors. As you can see from the photos attached, the fireplace looks pretty dirty, especially given the fact that we don’t burn wood in it. But I am not sure of the best method for cleaning it, but I would like the glass on the fireplace doors to be dark enough to hide the soot, at least for the most part.

Our Comments: We have created several samples of doors that will look great on your fireplace. If you cannot get the soot cleaned, you may want to consider a door that has a custom made frame wide enough to cover most of the soot as you see in the examples below. The Carolina door only has a 2" wide frame, so it will not cover the sooted area. The Legend door is almost identical to the Carolina door, but it is made from a 3/16" thick solid sheet of steel that is laser cut, whereas the Carolina is made by piecing together 3/16" thick steel barstock pieces that are 1 1/2" or 2" wide. So the Legend door can be made with whatever frame width we specify.

Fireplace Opening: 36" W x 27" H

Note: These mock-ups are digitally created and meant to be used as a visualization tool only. The door frames are not exactly to scale and the finishes we attempt to replicate may not be accurate and will look different on every device. Measurements

We need the following measurements of the fireplace opening, not of the old original door:

A1: Shortest width between the stones
A2: Longest width between the stones
B1: Shortest height to lintel
B2: Tallest height to lintel
C: Height from bottom of lintel to top of the soot at this point (this will determine how wide we need to make the frame if we use a custom width).

Mesh Options

These options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
