Project 10345 - Screen Door for Study Fireplace

Customer Comments: We are in the market for two fireplace screens for our new Nashville-area home and saw your website. Here’s what we have: The second unit is our Study Fireplace. It is an Isokern unit that can burn wood, but we have opted for gas logs instead. No need for this to open, just want a pretty, decorative screen. Open to creativity here. Firebox opening is 35" wide and the area is 46" max wide. The firebox opening begins 8” above the floor. The opening is 30" tall (so top is 38" above floor). Floor to mantle height is 47". Not that we necessarily need to stay with this metal, but all of the metal knobs, handles, etc in this room are brushed nickel.

Our Comments: This is a very elegant fireplace that deserves some special treatment. Because the opening is raised from the floor, the type of screen you can use is limited. Your choices are between a glass door, mesh door or a mesh curtain, which we have chosen as our first recommendation since you were inquiring about a screen rather than a glass door. Also, if you can supply a larger photo, we will be happy to redo this project so you can see better detail.

Fireplace Opening: 46" W x 35" H

Note: These mock-ups are digitally created and meant to be used as a visualization tool only. The door frames are not exactly to scale and the finishes we attempt to replicate may not be accurate and will look different on every device. Before
Before:
Frame Screen
Custom Frame Screen Option #1: Custom Frame Sreen with Half Oval Casting in Pewter Finish. This screen is made from 100% solid virgin brass bar stock with a solid brass casting trim. All hand made by local craftsman near us. The pewter finish over solid brass gives this screen a look of elegance that is unmatched in the industry. This can also be made with glass doors. It is expensive, so we will come up with some other alternatives if it is beyond your budget.
Frame Screen
Custom Frame Screen Option #2: Custom Frame Screen with Mini Crown Molding in Brushed Nickel. Same construction as the above screen but with a more contemporary solid brass extrusion.
Brookfield
Brookfield Fireplace Door Option #3: Brookfield Fireplace Door in Satin Nickel. This door is made from anodized aluminum. You can also have a mesh curtain or mesh doors behind the glass so you have a closed screen when the doors are open (you must burn the logs with the doors open). Glass doors are good for gas logs because you are supposed to leave the damper open permanently when a gas log is installed. We have provided this option as it is substantially less expensive than Option #1 and #2.
Screen Door
Custom Fireplace Screen Door Option #4: Custom Fireplace Screen Door Shown in Polished Nickel with Reed & Ribbon Casting. The Reed & Ribbon casting is no longer available, but you can choose from others in the samples below. We just chose to show this door because we had a picture of it.
Stiletto Cutback
Stiletto Fireplace Door Option #5: Stiletto Cutback Fireplace Door in Satin Nickel. Shown with 4-sided cutback frame without draft. This door is made from anodized aluminum. Without the cutback frame, the door projects out from the fireplace 1 5/8", where as with the cutback frame option, it is flush against the fireplace. You can also have a mesh curtain or mesh doors behind the glass as with Option #3.
Silouette
Stiletto Fireplace Door Option #6: Silhouette Fireplace Door in Satin Nickel. Shown with 4-sided frame without draft. This door projects out from the fireplace 1 3/4" with a profile similar to the standard stiletto shown above. There is no longer a cutback option available for this door. This door is also made from anodized aluminum and has the same mesh choices as Option #3.

Mesh Options

These options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
