Project #10373 - Glass Door for Wide ZC Fireplace
Customer Comments: High I would like glass fireplace doors for our see through fireplace double sided 40-1/4 wide x 21-1/2 high x 20-1/2 deep. The fireplace will be refaced with ledger stone...see attached image.
Our Comments: We have taken a similar looking ledger stone and applied it to your photo to give you a better idea how the fireplace will look with doors. Each of the doors shown below can be made in black or gray finishes as you suggested you might like. In most cases we recommend using as narrow a frame as possible, but in your case, the opening is rather short and a wider frame may give the appearance of a taller opening, so we have included various frame widths so you can see the difference. Please see the additional comments below regarding how the doors should be made and installed.

Additional Comments
Because the ledger stone you are using has irregular depth, you will need to install the doors before you do the stone work. Otherwise, if you try to install the doors afterwards there will be gaps all around the frame and it will not look as finished. You will want to lay down the hearth first so the door sits on top of it. We will want to make the doors to overlap the existing brick opening as much as possible so that we preserve the viewing area since the fireplace openings are rather small. You will then need to cut the stones to but against the door frame when you install the stone. In order to determine the make-to size of the door so that we can order it before you do the stone work, you will need to get a pretty good estimate of the opening height with the hearth in place, so I would add 1/8” to the thickness of the hearth stone to account for the thin set mortar on the floor.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
