Project #10454 - Glass Doors for Fireplace with Ledge
Customer Comments: Good afternoon, My name is Bindi and I am hoping that you will be able to tell us if you have a stock fireplace door that fits our fireplace. I tried to buy one from Lowe’s but did t pay attention to all of the measurements and they don’t make one small enough to fit our fireplace. We were off by 1/4”! I really like the Savannah door style. Black for sure. My home number is ***-***-****. I plan on having my husband and father in law install it. We are thinking of painting the brick white, replacing the area above the fireplace with some grey wall wood, and adding a dark wood colored mantle.
Our Comments: A fireplace like yours where there is a ledge normally requires a custom made door because the top cannot be overlapped as stock doors are designed to do. In your case, the ideal door would overlap the bottom and butt up against the top. The stock doors are designed the opposite way, to overlap the top and sit flush on the hearth at the bottom.
With that said, the closest stock size for the Savannah is 23 1/2" tall, which would leave a 1/2" gap at the top and would not overlap on the bottom. You can fill that gap at the top with mortar or just leave it if it is not too noticeable. This is not ideal, but some of our customers choose that for the cost savings over having a door custom made. Also, we do not necessarily recommend the Savannah in your case because it has a wider frame than some doors and, because it is not overlapping the top, it will shrink the height of the opening by the width of the frame.
Stock doors have a draft assembly at the bottom, but no additional frame to overlap your bottom bricks. Custom doors can be made with a 4 sided frame with or without a draft assembly. If you want to burn a wood fire with the doors closed, you will need the draft assembly. We have created examples of all of these options.

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
