Project #10491 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hello, My wife and I are in the process of updating our fireplace. We've just removed the old brass doors and are planning on replacing them with something a bit more stylish and modern. We'd like to use your service to provide some design ideas before we purchase a new set of doors. We've followed the instructions on your website to take pictures of the existing fireplace. Note, we are planning to tear out and replace the old/red brick on the floor and replace it with brighter patterned tiles. We are planning to repaint the white brick surrounding the firebox. We're not sure of a color scheme yet and will determine the color to paint and the tiles to use on the floor based upon the door design we choose.

Attached is a PDF of the fireplace dimensions and pictures of the current fireplace. We're mostly interested in the following frame/options:

* Carolina Window Pane (masonry)
* 2 non-folding doors (if possible - would like 2 solid doors rather then the bi-folding w/ 4 panels)
* Solar bronze color (or similar)
* Grey glass
* 2 mesh panels behind the glass (please let us know whether the standard black mesh or stainless steel would look better)

Note, there doesn't appear to be a damper in the chimney, so we're looking for a set of fireplace doors that are fairly airtight to help keep our home energy efficient. We also don't really plan to use the fireplace to burn wood (haven't used it in 11 years so far), so we're mostly looking for a good-looking design (but will also allow a working fireplace if the next owners want to use it).

We would LOVE your design inputs/recommendations and are looking forward to seeing a few mock-ups (even with the current ugly paint and brick).

Our Comments: Great pictures and description of what you want. Here are some examples you might wish to consider in a variety if materials and finishes. Regarding stainless steel mesh, that is used for outdoors and is usually painted black, so you will see no difference between that and regular mesh. We can provide unfinished stainless steel mesh, but it does not necessarily look good with bronze finishes. We would recommend black or gray finishes for that.

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
