Project #10496 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hi Felix, we just spoke on the phone in regards to a see through fireplace that I want to add doors to. I found this article on the web Glass Doors for Rock Fireplaces. Here are some details about this project:

Its a see through wood burning masonry fireplace, opening 26 x 36. I want to add two glass door to the fireplace according to what the article suggests, so I don't have smoke in the house while burning. One of the doors could be fixed. I need to do an overlap mount since the stones that I will be adding dont have finish on the sides, then I will probably fill the gaps with mortar or caulking. House is in south Florida, so I won't be using this fireplace a lot, maybe a couple times a year in winter. You suggested aluminum frame since it was less expensive than steel and taking into account that it wont be used a lot. I want the door to look nice, aluminum for some reason sounds to me that won't look as nice as the steel door, maybe I'm wrong, I would need to see some pictures of the two finishes to compare. I'm installing stones to the fireplace soon. I'd like something modern , without obstructions in the center of the glass (frames,...) more towards mate metal, not shiny. See Pictures.

Our Comments: We have attempted to create the finished look of your fireplace based on the pictures you sent. We have included several glass doors that will work. The Aluminum doors are substantially less expensive, but have many of the same powder coat finishes. The steel doors will have a superior finished look of quality and make a more refined statement.

Fireplace Opening: 36" W x 26" H

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
