Project #10520 - Glass Doors for Fireplace
Customer Comments: I’m working on a fireplace remodel. As you can see, the depth of the rock is quite irregular. I would like to have a simple, matte black frame and glass doors. I’m guessing that a prefabricated frame will not work in my case since there is not a flat surface to mount it on. Do you have any suggestions or door styles you think will work?
Our Comments: Pretty much any of our glass doors can be made to fit your fireplace. The steel doors are more solid and have a higher quality appearance. The Legend and Craftsman doors can be made with a mortar flange that makes installation much easier when filling the gaps with mortar. We have created some examples of the more popular styles used on fireplaces like yours. You would need to find the smallest width and height of the opening and then we would make the door frame about 1/4" narrower on the top and each side. You would then need to fill the gaps with mortar. You can read more about installing doors on rock fireplaces here: Installing Glass Doors on Rock Fireplaces.

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
