Project #10526 - Glass Doors for Fireplace
Customer Comments: I am looking for fireplace doors for my fireplace and wanted to see if the products you carried could fit. The reason for wanting glass doors: Prevent kids and pets from getting into the fireplace as the mesh does not provide a good barrier for them. Prevent heat from leaving the house during the winter via the fireplace. Would the mesh panel doors you mentioned also prevent the heat loss? We did not intend to have the glass doors closed while burning but that's good to know.
Our Comments: Mesh doors will do nothing to prevent from leaving the house in the winter, so glass doors are your best option. Most glass doors for prefab firepalces must fit on the inside of the black metal fireplace as shown in Option #1. The other options are made by a high end manufacturer who makes doors that can overlap the outside of the opening. In both cases, they are required to leave some caps that allow room air to flow into the fireplace when the doors are closed. This is a requrement based on safety standards for prefabricated fireplaces to prevent them from overheating in the case that someone burns a fire with the doors closed. So there is no way to get around that. This means there will be some air and heat loss during the winter, but substantially less than if you had no doors at all.
Fireplace Opening: Approximately 36" W x 28" H
Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Inside Fit Aluminum Doors
Overlap Fitting Doors
These doors can overlap the marble but will have 1/4" spacers on the back of the frame to allow for airflow. They can be made from solid steel or solid brass or a combination of both materials in a wide variety of Cast Trims & Finishes.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
