Project #10562 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: I am currently doing a remodel project, including a re-face of the fireplace. My question is: Once drywall-ed and tiled, will I be able to just replace the existing chain link with glass doors on the front? Or will the entire fireplace insert have to be replaced, just to switch to glass door front?. I just don’t want to drywall and tile the whole thing, and then figure out I cant do anything to switch out the front of it… I am unfamiliar with fireplace upgrades, if Im looking for glass doors, Do they generally come in standard sizes? Or they have to be custom to whatever size opening your fireplace is?

Our Comments: Here are some ideas to get you started. We will have further conversations to answer all of your questions. To create these looks, you will need to leave about 1/2" of the black metal fireplace face showing so the doors can overlap the opening after the tile is installed. We will make the doors slightly smaller than the tiled opening and the gap can be filled with grout as shown. We have also included some interesting contemporary gas fires to consider.

Important Note: Gas fires cannot be burned with the doors closed as shown in these mockups. Unfortunately, we are not able to create mockups that show the doors opened.

Fireplace Opening: 38" W x 22" H

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
