Project #10626 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: We just moved into our new (used) home, and we’re planning to remove the gas logs and return to wood burning, so definitely need some doors. Using your website guide for measuring we found the following size opening: 26-1/4” H x 36-1/2” W. Can we get a quote and suggestions?

Attached are pics of the fireplace. One or two of the stones protrude into the FP opening more than others and trimming them would result in less mortar fill. Can you tell me if that is reasonably possible or would that require a stone mason?

Unsure of aluminum vs steel???

Let me know if you need any additional info.

Our Comments: Most of your questions were answered in our email to you, so I won't post them here. The mockups below are doors we highly recommend. We did the mockup for "Tight Fitting Doors" using the Legend instead of the Carolina only because that is the picture we have on hand. They both look identical except for the draft assembly.

Fireplace Opening: 36 1/2" W x 26 1/4" H

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Fig #2 - Red arrows point to stones that might likely need to be chiseled back 1" or 2". This should be easy with a cold chisel or masons chisel and a small sledge hammer (that's how I used to do it).

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
