Project #10665 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hi, We are looking to add glass doors to our fireplace to protect our toddler. We want the doors for safety, but we like how the opening looks with nothing there. Essentially, we want the doors to be as invisible as possible but strong enough to not break if they're hit with a toy. We plan to use the fireplace occasionally, likely with the doors open (unless there's some reason to keep them closed), but we want it to be closed off pretty securely when it's not in use. The opening is 29" wide by 22.5" tall.

There are pictures attached, but we're in the middle of buying new furniture, so most of what's currently in the room will be misleading style-wise. We included a picture of a few items that capture what the feel of the room will be once it's furnished. We're also replacing the current mantel with a barn beam in a color very similar to what's there now and painting the walls greige.

From looking at the website, I think we want steel doors, Carolina or Legend rectangle (those look identical to me in the pictures, not sure why we would choose one or the other). I don't think we want any mesh or screens. Bi-fold doors, vintage iron finish (or honey maple or whatever you all think is going to be the least obtrusive with our stone), with rugged steel pulls or knobs (or whatever you recommend). I'm happy to discuss by phone before and/or after you send the mockups.

Our Comments: Here are the mockups requested after our discussion over the phone. We also added the Craftsman door for others to see on your unique fireplace. The proportions on these mockups are slighly off as your dimensions are much smaller than the pictures we start with. So the frames will be a bit wider in reality than what you are seeing here.

Fireplace Opening: 29" W x 22 1/2" H

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Medium Range Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
