Project #10681 - Glass Doors for Fireplace
Customer Comments: Hello, I just finished up a house renovation and am in need of getting (1) a Fireplace Door and (2) Vented Gas Log Set for our existing fireplace.
Fireplace Door:
For the door, we have a natural stone fireplace, but the opening is a fabricated steel angle iron. The angle iron is on three sides, with the hearth on the bottom. From the hearth, there is a small step down into the firebox (est 0.5in). The steel frame is 2in wide on the front, so i want to make sure that the frame for the doors is not larger than this width. The frame that we have measures 35 1/8in wide and 31 3/8in tall. As far as the design, we are looking for a pretty basic design door.
Color: Power Coated Black
Handles: Simple Handle
Folding: Bi-Folding Door (we have rock that sticks out that I do not want to get too close to.
Fireplace Logs:
As far as the Fireplace Logs, we really do not know how to size up the logs or even how the Gas Valve Options work. The firebox that we have is 18in deep (from the front) and it tapers down to 29_1/2 in wide in the back. I was thinking that a 24in log set would fit OK, but wanted your opinion. We are also still trying to determine which log set we would like but our real issue is with the valves.
We have a fireplace insert in our other part of the house and we like how that one functions and wanted to see how we might be able to replicate it. The design uses a standing pilot light with a variable flame height that we turn a knob to do. We light the pilot light with an igniter and then turn up the flame to achieve the standing pilot.
Our Comments: Here are some examples of black fireplace doors in aluminum and steel. We will call you to go over the pricing and details as well as help you choose your gas logs.
Fireplace Opening: 35 1/8" W x 31 3/8" H
Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Low End Aluminum Doors
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Medium Range Steel Doors
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
