Project #10699 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: We are seeking a super slim recessed glass door solution for our fireplace. We would like the frame and hardware to be in black and the glass to be clear. We do use the fireplace for warmth, so unsure if that requires it to open or not. It is an electric ignites gas fireplace. We are seeking a very modern solution. Any help is appreciated. Additional Comments: Hi Greg: Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I've attached the pictures you requested and I hope they provide you additional information to help you advise us better. We require the doors primarily to keep our dog out of the fireplace. We don't appear to get any drafts out of the fireplace, so completely blocking the fireplace is optional as long as the gap is hidden under the hood. Please feel free to call me with any other questions.

Our Comments: The wider the frame is on the door, the less of a gap there is at the top under the hood. Conversely, the wider the frame is, the more the opening size shrinks. So, we are showing examples of an aluminum door with a very narrow frame will have a larger gap at the top and one with a slightly wider frame with slightly less gap. Then there is are steel doors where we can make the frame any dimension we want, so it can have a narrower frame on the sides and a wider frame at the top. We show that as the third option.

We would make each of these doors 1/8" narrower on the sides. The height would be determined by the frame you choose. We have shown each of the frames to the right of the fireplace so you can see how the height would be made.

Low End Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Medium Range Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
