Project #10709 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hi, Looking for fireplace doors. Mesh screen door or glass for corner fireplace. Please see pictures below. The measurements are: 32w x 24h one side and 30w x 24h other side for the opening (inside). Also attaching pictures (last three) of another fireplace with the doors neighbors house) for ideas. Thank you.

Our Comments: The doors shown below can be done with glass or wire mesh doors. The glass doors can also have mesh curtains or wire mesh doors behind the glass. I was not sure which side was the opening side, but because both sides are so similar in width, you might as well have both sides functional. The doors can be made with or without a bottom draft assembly. It looks cleaner without the draft, but if you want to burn a fire with the doors closed, you will need the draft assembly to allow air to feed the fire.

Fireplace Opening:
Side1: 32" W x 24" H
Side 2: 30" W x 24" H

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Before:

Low End Aluminum Doors

The aluminum doors can be made with an all glass corner, which is a sleeker look. However, this does not hide the post, so you will still have that obstruction at the corner. The corner is mitered and has brackets that join the two sides together. Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Medium Range Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut. For corner fireplaces, steel doors are basically 2 doors butted up to each other.

High End Hand Crafted Solid Brass

These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel.

Bar and Mesh

We can replace your current mesh system with one that looks great and has better function. Fitting the bar under the opening and adding a bar at the bottom will keep the mesh from pushing out. We can also add a channel on the bottom bar that helps prevent the mesh from being pushed in. The least expensive way to do this is with a black bar as shown below.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
