Project #10712 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hello, I am interested in getting a quote for a custom fireplace screen. The fireplace opening is 30 inches. Specifically I am looking for a modern contemporary screen, perhaps glass. If glass is not an option, a custom frame screen. I’d like the finish to be black. I want it to connect to the brick if possible as the tile is uneven and a footing will not work. I like this one on your site: 1G40 Cylinder Feet and Peg Handles. I look forward to hearing from you.

Our Comments: If the hearth is slightly irregular, they cylinder feet may not be stable. Glass screens are not designed to be affixed to the fireplace opening. They need to stand out at least 8" to 10" away from the fire when it is burning. Glass doors are fixed to the opening and can be opened when the fire is burning (some can be closed) and have a mesh screen behind the glass. There are contemporary designs for glass doors as well as free standing glass screens. We have created some mockups showing some suggestions we have. The free standing glass screens below have larger more stable feet that should be more than sufficient to stand on your tile. Also, not sure about your fireplace dimesions, is the opening 30" square or is it just 30" wide with some other height?

Fireplace Opening: 30" W x ?" H

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
