Project #10805 - Glass Doors for Small Arched Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hello, The fireplace opening is 25-1/2" wide and 27-1/2" tall in the center for arch. The arch starts at 21-1/4". I realize that you won't be able to do a mock up but you will see the situation I have. I am not sure what my options are with such a small opening. I want an all black frame with doors and screen. I would like for it to at least cover the two holes (screws are in pics) made for securing previous fireplace doors that were oversized.

Our Comments: We took the time to create some mockups since your fireplace is a bit unusual. The first two options show how a frame would look made wide enough to cover the marks from the old doors. Because the bricks at the top are coming loose, we also created an example showing a frame made wide enough to cover the entire arched bricks.

How to make a template

Template - Tape a piece of heavy plastic sheet over the fireplace stretched out snugly. Be sure the bottom edge is the straight edge. Trace the opening onto the plastic and trace the outer grout line of the outside of the arch as well. Mark the outside of the plastic "Outside Looking In" and include your name and sales order # (we will give that to you). It is best to roll up the plastic and put it in a tube for shipping rather than folding it. We will give you instructions for mailing the template.

How to measure

Supply these measurements:
W1 - Smallest Opening Width:
W2 - Outer Width of Arched Bricks
H1 - Tallest Opening Height at Arch
H2 - Tallest Height of Arched Bricks

Measure the outside of the arched bricks from the outer edge of the mortar joints. We will make the door about 1/2" wider than that.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
