Project #10867 - Glass Doors for Mid Century Modern Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hi, We have a mid century home that was recently remodeled. The fireplace has been tiled and now we need a fireplace door or something to put over the opening. Because the stoop was removed there is nothing to hold an external door. So we are thinking we should get a door that is inset. But open to ideas. Here are some pictures. Here is the measurement (approximate). 30 1/4” wide. X 29 1/4” tall. Would appreciate some suggestions or options for us. We want two door model with a muted color that is understated gold or brass or possibly black. Stiletto style my wife says.

Our Comments: Here are some great options for your mid-century modern fireplace. The mockups below include doors made from aluminum, steel and solid brass. The only way to get a true brass tone is with solid brass. Aluminum and steel doors have few options in brass and we do NOT do plated brass as it will eventually tarnish. If you do aluminum, we suggest you stick with black. In the steel doors there is a Vintage Brass finish that is like a light antique brass. The solid brass doors have many brass finish options.

Fireplace Opening: 30 1/4" W x 29 1/4" H

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Low End Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

High End Hand Crafted Solid Brass

These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
