Project #10876 - Glass Doors for Two White Brick Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hello, We are looking for options to upgrade our existing glass door with new. Any help on design is appreciated. We have two fireplaces within site of each other so maybe the could be matching?

Our Comments: If you want the doors to look the same, the limitation will be the door on the fireplace in the back room. If the weeping mortar joints have been cut off to fit the existing door, when it is removed, the new door will need to be made with the same type of wide frame. So this elimintes most of the doors that are designed with sleeker narrower frames. In fact, we must either custom make the frames wider than usual, or add a metal surround to cover that area and then add a narrower door inside that surround. To get you started, we have provided examples of both types of doors.

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Low End Aluminum Doors

None of the aluminum doors come with a frame wide enough to cover the area around the opening where the mortar has been flattened. So in this case we must first make a metal surround and then attach the aluminum door to it. This combination is in the $1800.00 price range.

Legend Steel Doors

The Legend door is laser cut from 3/16" thick solid steel, so we can make the frame as wide as necessary. The frame is made from the same material we use for the Surround in Option #1 above, but the door is built-in to the frame instead of a separate piece.

High End Hand Crafted Solid Brass

These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass and Steel. We chose this particular door because it works well with the surround in the front room and still ties in with the safe in the back room. This is the very high end and prices out close to $4500.00 because of the quality in materials and craftsmanship.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
