Project #10880 - Traditional Solid Brass Fireplace Doors

Customer Comments: Hello, I would like your help, please, concerning replacing my current fireplace door. I have read on your website and understand the pictures that you would like in order to be of service to me. However, I cannot take an upper left corner of the fireplace nor a picture of the lower left corner of the fireplace due to the current doors that are covering the opening. I have included pictures of the upper left and lower left corners of the doors- knowing that this would not really serve you any purpose. Also, I have unvented gas-fired logs in the fireplace and removing the doors would allow too much cold air to come into the house. The flue remains closed at all times.

The dimensions of the fireplace are 36" wide by 28" high. The dimensions of the current door are 40 1/2 " wide by 31" high.

I still like the polished brass, but I am open to suggestions for something different. As far as design- I would like something classy looking but not overbearing. What I currently have is rusting and I am tired of it, to be quite frank.

Our Comments: I recognize the doors you currently have. They are made from brass plated steel sheet metal, which is why they are rusting. We’ve replaced that same exact door many times over the years because of the tarnishing and rust. They also seem to stick when you try to open them. Most fireplace door manufacturers stopped using plated brass over the years for this very reason.

With that said, there is one company in the USA that actually makes fireplace doors from real solid brass, and their name is Stone Manufacturing. They are a very high end manufacturer and we are fortunate to be located 20 minutes from their factory here in Southern California. So if you want a polished, satin or antique brass finish, this is the only brand we recommend anymore.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
