Project #10893 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: I've attached the pictures, it's a renovation in progress so no picture of the room, but it's an open kitchen, living dining with hickory floors and hickory kitchen cabinets. We are still deciding whether we will run stone up to the ceiling above the fireplace or sheetrock, or tongue and groove pine...the fireplace is 48" across and 34" wide. I like the bungalow aluminum, we want simple and all the fixtures, hinges, knobs and pulls are satin nickel, so I want a brushed silver finish...looking forward to hearing your ideas! regards

Our Comments: Your stone is very irregular, so whatever door you choose is best made as an inside fit. You would then fill the gaps between the door frame and stone with mortar. The Bungalow and other aluminum doors come in what is called a satin nickel finish, but it is actually just brushed aluminum, which is similar to satin nickel, but not the same. The steel can be nickel plated or made from stainless steel. The most true satin nickel finish is on solid brass, but those doors are very expensive (over $3000.00). We have included examples of doors made from all of these materials.

Fireplace Opening: 48" W x 34" H

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Low End Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Medium Range Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

High End Hand Crafted Solid Brass

These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
