Project #10918 - Glass Doors for Fireplace
Customer Comments: We want something simple in black. Something like the Legend doors. Our biggest question is whether to do inside fit doors or not. We really prefer the clean look of an inside fit, but we're concerned about either gaps showing or a messy mortar gap filler. Would an inside fit look really clean in our fireplace or are we better off doing overlap with as little overlap as possible?
HEIGHT: Ranges from 29 1/8th inches to 29 7/16th inches WIDTH: Ranges from 37 1/2 inches to 37 3/4 inches
Our Comments: There is no doubt an outside fitting door will look better and be much easier to install. Fitting a door inside would only accentuate the irregularities of the opening rather than hide them. Plus, you would need to fill the gaps with mortar and then paint it to match the bricks (if possible). We have created mockups of the Legend door with and without the mesh options as well as very simple sliding door you may wish to consider. Please be sure to read the important notes about measuring after the mockups.
Fireplace Opening: 37 1/2" to 37 3/4" W x 29 1/8" to 29 7/16" H
Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Legend Doors
The Legend laser cut from 3/16" thick solid steel and is very simple yet rugged. This is our most popular custom fireplace door.

Sliding Door
By Stone Manufacturing: The sliding door, made by Stone Manufacturing, is one of the cleanest simple looking doors on the market. This unique design features a 2" wide frame with 2 fixed glass panels on the sides and 2 panels that slide left and right with simple waterfall handles directly on the glass.
Measurements
You already supplied measurements, but we will need to know the lintel height, which is indicated as "L" below. The lintel affects how much the door can overlap the top bricks because the subframe of the Legend recesses 1 1/2" back into the fireplace and the 1 1/2" wide frame can only overlap the opening 1". So however thick the lintel is, you must deduct that from the 1" overlap. If the lintel is more than 1/2" thick, you should probably use a 2" wide frame instead of a 1 1/2" wide frame just for added measure to ensure the subframe clears the lintel and you can have ample overlap at the to. This is even more important if you add one of the mesh options since they must clear the lintel as well.
W - Opening Width: 37 1/2" to 37 3/4"
H - Opening Height: 29 1/8" to 29 7/16"
L - Smallest Lintel Height:

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
