Project #10923 - Glass Doors for Fireplace
Customer Comments: My husband and I are interested in purchasing a sleek, contemporary glass fireplace enclosure for our masonry fireplace. We are planning on installing an H Burner to convert our fireplace to burn only fire glass. It would be an added bonus if the design of the door can help showcase the fire glass. We noticed that Hansen Wholesale offers quite a nice selection of glass doors.
Our preference would be to have an inside fit or a cutback for a flat flush look on our marble face although with our budget in mind, we would be open to a door with a narrow frame with minimal overlap or a stock frame as well. Frameless glass doors would also be a nice look. Our preference would be to not have any kind of mesh doors unless it is required by code. Without realizing the enormous selection in colors, we originally just thought a flat or non-textured black would be the only option for us. After reviewing the color choices, Bronze Burst and Espresso may be considerations aside from black. From your Fireplace Photo Gallery Projects, the "Stiletto", the "Met", "Minimal-1" or "Edge" are examples of designs with simple, clean, minimal appearances that we are drawn to.
I hope the attached photos will help give you a better perspective of what options would be available for us. Currently, our room is not furnished. I tried to provide some other pictures to help give you a better sense of our living room including one vertical photo just to show the wall's high pitched ceiling where the fireplace is located. Another photo included shows the gas pipe's location and its distance from the face of the fireplace as I think this will have some bearing as to whether an inside fit or cutback would have enough clearance or possibly notching the door frame if that's an option.Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Low End Aluminum Doors
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Option #1: Stiletto Cutback Bifold Fireplace Glass Door in Expresso with Singe Gate Mesh Backup Door.
Medium Range Steel Doors
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut. One thing to consider is that when you burn the glass fire, you must open the doors. This is a safety rule when burning gas. We have pictured a couple of the mockups with gas burning features where the doors are closed because we cannot Photoshop them open.

Minimal and Hybrid Doors
These doors are made exclusively by Stone Manufacturing and are the most Minimal fireplace doors on the market. The Minimal and Hybrid doors do not have frames on the sides, just an angle iron that mounts to the top and bottom of the opening that holds hardware for the glass.

Edge Doors
Also from Stone Manufacturing, the Edge door uses an angle iron goes around the opening on all 4 sides and has several options as to how the glass can be attached. You can have the same hinges as the Minimal or Hybrid doors, or sliding doors like you see in the example below where the left and right panes are fixed and the center panes slide to the left and right.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
