Project #10926 - Glass Doors for Fireplace
Customer Comments: Good Afternoon, As requested by your instructions, I am providing the information you require for your Design Service. Attached are the three photos you requested. As the photos show, the fireplace opening is rectangular.
Details:
Referring to your photos of previous design: Project #10863: Option # 1B, 1C and 5
- Modify for rectangular fireplace with 2 piece glass cabinet doors with no framing around individual glass doors.
- Victorian polished brass casting for framing of fireplace.
- Door handles as shown in Project # 10863 as shown in of the above three options.
Our Comments: Below are several ways the Victorian casting can be used on fireplace doors. One point of clarification is that the doors referenced in Project #10863 all have frames around the glass, just not down the center. There are a couple options for doors that do not have frames on the glass which we have included, but we suspect you just don't want the center frames.
Function: These doors are not designed to be burned closed while the fire is burning hot. If you add a bottom draft, you can close the doors to start the fire but must open the doors once the fire gets going. You can close the doors after the fire has died out or burning very low to help the fire die out completely and prevent cold air from coming into the home during the night. If you have a bottom draft, it should be closed at this point. If you are burning gas logs, you must leave the doors open at all times while he fire is burning in order to prevent sooting of the logs and build-up of gas. It is best to have a bottom draft when burning gas logs to allow air to flow from underneath the grate.
Fireplace Opening: 35 1/2 to 36 1/4" W x 24 1/2 to 24 5/8" H

These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans at Stone Manufacturing from Solid Brass. These doors are not meant to be burned with the fireplace open, so either mesh curtains or gate mesh backup doors should be considered.

Option #11D: DF1G-95 Solid Brass Cabinet Fireplace Door with 3-Sided Shell Casting Trim (inverted) with Concealed Bottom Vent, Square Handles and ORN-9 Ornament (Shown as Inside Fit). We have attempted to create this mockup as close to scale as we could, but it is not perfect. The Shell Casting is 1 1/2" to 3 1/2" wide, so the door frame at the top must be at least 5" wide and the sides about 4 1/2" including the frame around the doors. This will shrink the opening quite a bit compared to an overlap fit.
Option #12: DF1G-46 Solid Brass Cabinet Fireplace Door with 3-Sided Tulip Casting with Concealed Bottom Vent, Bowed Handles and ORN-9 Ornament (Shown as Inside Fit). The Tulip Casting is 2" Wide.
Actual Product Photos
All of the mockups above are computer renditions cropped from the actual product photos below. The mockups are a generalized depiction and do not show exactly how the patterns will flow. The solid brass castings used to make these products are cut and pieced together by artisans to create a flowing pattern with proper joints at the corners. Several castings are pieced together to create a symmetrical pattern with hand detailed joints for a seamless look. With the shell casting in particular, the pattern will vary depending how it repeats and where the ideal joints will be made based on the overall size of the product. If you look closely at the two pictures of actual products below, you will notice that the sides look different because of the height differences. The top and bottom patterns look very similar since the widths are the same.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
