Project #10932 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: Interested in visiting with your company about custom bifold doors for outside fireplace

Our Comments: Outdoor fireplaces require doors made from special materials that can withstand the elements including: aluminum, stainless steel, wax coated solid brass and zinc coated wrought iron. The price range for these materials is anywhere from $1500 to $8700 as indicated below. We have created examples of doors made from each of these weather resistant metals. We have presented each example as an inside fit with mortar around the frame. If the stone is not too bumpy, you may be able to do an overlap fit with some of these doors if we make the frames a bit wider.

Fireplace Opening: 63 3/8" W x 33 3/4" H

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Low End Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. For outdoors, we add stainless steel outer hinges for added durability, although the bifold hinge is made from normal steel and may deteriorate over time. The finish may also show signs of corrosion. Starting Price: $1500.00.

Stainless Steel

Steel doors are more substantial and durable than aluminum. They are made from 3/16" thick 304 stainless steel. This is a raw stainless finish or it can be painted black. Some corrosion is to be expected, but can be cleaned using a brillow pad. Starting Price: $4500.00.

High End Hand Crafted Solid Brass

Solid brass is one of the most durable metals for outdoors. Although it will form a natural patina from corrosion, it does not degrade the material like rust does to steel. The wax coating helps inhibit corrosion, so if applied regularly, the door will look new for years to come. We can also supply the door in a solid brass natural finish and you can let it develop it's own natural patina. Waxing the hinges will keep them operating smoothly. Starting Price: $4500.00

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
