Project #10950 - Glass Doors for Fireplace
Customer Comments: Hello, I an interested in a custom fireplace screen to replace the one in the attached picture. The color should match the fireplace tools and the mirror above. The opening dimensions are 72" x 45" (w x h). Could you please provide me with some options?
Our Comments: Below you will find examples of glass doors, folding screens, single panel screens and sliding mesh curtains. Each one of these would work well with your beautiful fireplace. If your andirons are solid brass, we can have them refinished to match the screen.

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Glass Doors
Glass doors give you the most convenience, spark protection and efficiency. You can burn the fire with the doors open or closed and you can have mesh doors or sliding mesh curtains behind the glass. Fireplaces this large require fixed panels on the ends in order to keep the size of each glass pane under 4 square feet as shown in this example.

Free Standing Screens
Free standing screens like the one you already have are less convenient, particularly for large fireplaces, because they must be moved out of the way when tending the fire. Adding doors to a folding screen is a way to get around this inconvenience.

Frame Screens
Frame screens are very convenient because you simply slide the mesh curtains out of the way when tending the fire instead of having to move the entire screen.

Solid Brass Castings

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
