Project #10955 - Glass Doors Odd Firelpace Size
Customer Comments: Greg & Felix, You guys did a great job on the last set of fireplace doors I ordered and I have another fireplace I need doors for. This one is brick without a metal box. I have attached a photo the measurements of the opening are: Height: 34 7/8", width at top (min): 25 5/8", width at bottom (max): 26 1/2". Because it is such a tall and narrow opening, I was thinking it might look better to have a fixed (non-opening) glass panel for the top 9" or so and have the opening doors below that, if that is a possibility. I'm thinking of a Savannah Aluminum door (or maybe Carolina or Essex in steel) in rustic black with clear glass and mesh panel doors behind the glass. I'd also like to know if tight fitting glass is an option.

Steel Doors
Steel doors are very customizable since they are laser cut from a single sheet of 3/16" thick solid steel. So we can modify the width of the frame and add laser cut patterns. These are substantially more expensive than the aluminum doors you previously purchased.

Low End Aluminum Doors
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. However, the aluminum frames are made from extrusions that have a fixed dimension for the material. The extrusions can be cut in length, but the width of the material cannot be modified. We can get around this by adding a solid steel surround that goes behind the door to bring things back into proportion. Adding a surround brings the price closer to the cost of the steel doors, so it is not necessarily a better option.
Option #8: Bungalow Twin Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black. This is one of the wider aluminum frames, so we can make it overlap about 3" on each side and just 1/2" at the top to help the proportion a little. This is the least expensive option on this page.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
