Project #11007 - Glass Doors for Fireplace
Customer Comments:
Looking for something minimalist and modern in black. Really would like something as thin as possible - both the face and also the depth.
Our Comments: Here are the best options for minimal fireplace doors. The last two options are the most minimal as they do not have any frame on the sides and a very narrow frame at the top and bottom.
Fireplace Opening:
36" W x 22 3/4" H

Before

Before:
Low End Aluminum Doors
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Stiletto

Option #1:
Stiletto Cutback Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Clear Glass. This is the narrowest door with a 4-sided frame (15/16" wide). This door only works with fireplaces that are perfectly square within 1/8".
Profile 4

Option #1B: "NEW" From Hearth Creations - Profile 4 Aluminum Bifold Door in Matte Black with Clear Glass. This door is very similar to Option #1 but is more forgiving with a 1/2" overlap that still allows for 1/4" room for play. The frame is 1" wide, only 1/16" wider than the Stiletto.
Medium Range Steel Doors
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
Legend

Option #2:
Legend Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Clear Glass. Made with special custom 1" wide frame. This door can handle up to 1/4" variance if the opening is out of square.
Slim Moderne

Option #3: MET Twin Fireplace Door in Rustic Black with Gray Glass. This door has a super sleek 2" wide frame with no visible handles. The outer frame projects out about 1" which allows you to grab the outer edge of the frame to open the door.
High End Hand Crafted Solid Brass
These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel.
Minimal-1

Option #4: Minimal-1
Twin Fireplace Glass Door in Flat Black with 3/8" Ultra Clear Low Iron Glass. There is no frame on the sides, only angle irons that attach to the top and bottom of the opening to hold the glass hardware. This is the only door that uses 3/8" thick glass, all of the other doors use 1/4" glass. You can also have plain clear glass or Gralite-14 Dark Gray glass.
Hybrid-2

Option #5: HYBRID-2 Bifold Fireplace Glass Door in Flat Black with Graylite-14 Dark Gray Glass. This door also has no frame on the sides.
Hybrid-2

Option #6: SD Sliding Door in Flat Black with Graylite-14 Dark Gray Glass. This door has a 2" wide frame without hinges. The doors do not open out. The outer left and right sides are fixed while the inner left and right panes slide left and right. There is no other door on the market that works like this, so when opened the doors are completely out of the way. Very cool looking.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass

Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.

Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
