Plain Glass Doors for Hole in the Wall Fireplace - Project #11086

Customer Comments: Hello, I am hoping to get a simple black matte modern frame to outline my fireplace. I'm not sure if I want a glass cover or not. Note-- I am still cleaning up the paint/grout, and I haven't furnished my house yet so this is temporary furniture (:

Our Comments: If you are planning to burn real wood, glass doors will be your best option since it appears you do not have a hearth below. Mesh curtains can work, but will not block 100% of the sparks. We also included an example of a free standing screen, but I would only recommend this if you are burning gas logs since sparks will hit it and fall to the floor. Also, it appears that the opening is wider at the bottom than at the top, so we will either need to use a wider rectangular frame or make the frame match the shape of the fireplace. We also experimented with a white and satin nickel glass door just for kicks.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
